I have a small dot at the top of my raster. It appears to be the dot referred to in below TB, so I have the fix available (add a capacitor in paralled with R85 on the VIM) Before I order capacitor just wanted to check if there was something else going on as my dot is not positioned per the TB (TB says centered; my dot is about 1/4th of the way over from the left side).

that's normal, I've never actually seen it on dead center

I still think that's one of the most bizarre little oddities ever. How can that little change cause a single dot, or eliminate it?

I'd like to investigate the dynamics of that little goof.

For what its worth - my symptoms are not solely a dot. That is the most prominant part (and not that prominant anyway). But I also get a faint vertical line down from the dot visible on very dark scenes

that's normal too, there's a "line fix" TSB as well although it's a bit harder to do. IT's also not necessary, if you set the machine to do FFTB then the line is not visible.

I had to look that up - full fade to black; yes I have the brightness up some to get some deep shadow detail that I wouldn't get if I had perfect blacks. I'll live with the line as it is very very dim

What is FFTB , full fade to black. I have the faint line problem too. I follow the TSB and the faint line disappear. The problem is after the TSB, I have to reduce the Brightness to half of before the fix and as a result reduced the machine's contrast ratio , I don't like it a bit!

Thats normal after TB-fix that you have totally different brighness values. That doesent reduse contrast ratio. Just "numbers" are different.

yeah I've see nthat too, after the line fix the brightness needs to be set around 30 for good black levels, not a big deal.

You can actually have FFTB and nice shadow detail if you have a Moome card with Gamma or some other device which can tweak the low end. i've heard that a nice scaler can do even better than a fixed device and allow a totally custom curve.

I do have the Moome Ext-HD version. Someday I may try expanding the gamma range again. Last time I did that I adjusted the wrong pot inside the unit (no wonder I wasn't getting the gamma to change). As it is I believe it is set to maximum and although I notice some improvement in shadow detail its not that dramatic so I do leave the brightness up at least enough that those vertical lines are faintly visible on FFTB. Not a big deal for me - easier than stripping the head off the screws on the Moome box to try and reset the pot again.
