The primer makes all the difference. Especially the PROPER primer.

I tried the Rustoleum universal paint but i didn't like the spray texture or the glossy-ness of the flat paint. I had much better success with the Krylon Fusion Paint. It's made for plastic so no primer is necessary. My process was to wipe down all the parts with alcohol, then sand all the parts with a scotchbrite pad and then wipe them again with alcohol before painting.

Yeah, I didn't realize the Rustoleum universal has that slight texture or that it's not truly flat, but it still looks tons better than it did before. I don't remember what paint I used on the top pieces, but they are both a very nice, flat black. At some point I may redo the sides and back, too.

I was at a mate's place last night and we took to his 9PG with some tools, bled the tubes, and did a rough as guts setup to see what it was like (very impressive too) Its looking like itll need a paint job, and there is also an incoming 9PG XTRA that will be in probable need of a paint job too.

There will be more to come Wink

I finished my paint job over last weekend, and I got my pj back from Curt today so I put it all together tonight. I wasn't striving for perfection with the paint. Just wanted to get rid of the ugly scratches and fix the nasty gouge in the lens hood. Overall I'm pretty pleased. The fact that I now have this HUMONGOUS beast hanging in the middle of my living room is another matter entirely. It's gonna take some getting used to. Still trying to convince the wife it's less of an eye sore than the 64" RP-CRT we are replacing in that room. Smile

Here are a couple pics:

Nice!

What you do now to make it look nicer for the wife is build a removable box to go around the Mount. So you cover all of that and it goes from the ceiling to the base of the Pj. Paint it white or Black or match it to your wood railings and she'll like it much more.

That's where the ACON convergence camera goes. I don't have it installed right now because I'm still waiting on my LVPS which the camera partly screws on to.

Thanks Case. You're exactly right, it's a metallic charcoal color. It's a Rust-Oleum paint - they call it Black Night Metallic. You can see the original case paint here.

The mount is a Chief motorized winch. What a godsend that thing is! Had the pj up in minutes. It's attached to a couple Uni-Strut brackets, which I learned about on this site.

Here's my 1209s painted by me with Septone Automotive "Bumper Prime" and top coats of "Bumper Bar Black".

The now superceeded G70 was proffessionally spray painted with automotives in a custom mix of semi-gloss black.

the BG1209s lives in there now, little less room, but the boxier shape of the barco slots in there nicely.

I painted my BG808 case today with two cans of the Rustoleum Midnight Black Metallic. I love the color, it's perfect. The problem is that I couldn't for the life of me get it even and you can tell when the lights are up and it shines down the sides. How do I fix it? More coats? Thanks!

I've found that thru practice, a number of light coats is much better than few 'heavy' coats. The other thing that can contribute to the uneveness of the finish, is the distance you have the spray can from the surface, you need to experiment with the distance to optimize paint coverage/overspray/overlap. Work fast, try to keep a 'wet edge'. You may need to wet and dry sand the current coats before you apply more.

Practice makes perfect.

I got my G70 proffessionally sprayed. But after doing the 1209s myself, I'd never 'pay' to get it done again. I have a Marquee 8500 waiting to be sprayed at home right now.

Good luck. Thumbs Up
