|
|
Hi
Recently my BG1208s/2 broke (fortunately after only 5 mins into the movie, not 5 minutes from the end ).
There was a small sound that sounded like a HV arc (I have had some small ones from time to time, but this one was a "longer" one). And the tubes shutdown. I just started it to try to troubleshoot and the first think to check seems to be that all LEDs are green on the PS and no red light. All seems fine there. The second step seems to be to look at the eht to see if there is any LED on there, and there is a red LED on for sure.
When I start the machine (out of standby) all sounds "normal" expect that I dont hear the HV crackle.
As I understand there is the EHT, then the QUAD (no sure what that does...) and then the splitter, right?
Any ideas on next step troubleshooting?
Thanks!
Anders

The quadrupler is the dark gray block right by the EHT board. ANy of those three components can be bad. I get people to send me the quadrupler and the EHT board, as those come out of the set easily. If those test OK here, then I send them back with an HV splitter. Shoot me an email if you want to send them in.

Curt, thanks for your quick answer!
I took a closer look at the components suggested and found a component that has cracked (is this the G2/focus block?). Could this be either the problem, or a result of a problem maybe?

It could be, but a simple test for that is to take off the red focus wire from the quadrupler, and see if the EHT light still comes on. If so, it's not that block. I've seen blocks with cracks like that be bad, or they could be fine. HEat cracks them.
Watch the end of the focus lead when you disconnect it, it has upwards of 6000 volts on it. Don't touch it and don't let it touch the chassis.

funny, that is exactly what my G2/Focus splitter looked like, most say this has to be replaced even if it is not the culprit and on my end it wasn't the (main) problem
Curt you have seen these cracked and still be ok ?
I also hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the 1208/2 has the later EHT system and quad, so you are looking at a 250$+ fix if it is the quad, luckily Curt has them right now I think

FYI
The 1208s/2 has the power supply MOSET issue that will result in tube shutdown. It is addressed in a SB.
