With the contrast setting on, it has solved my gamma problems I had with my HD-A3.

It is one hell of a DVD player. It'll fill the gap until I can decide what s/w to run on my HTPC.

Nvidia right now. The issue with the HTPC is not supporting Interlaced with Powerstrip anymore. I am trying to secure an older 7950GT card that does. Either way I wasa not happy with DVD's in PDVD.

The New XDE is great with DVD's and the contrast setting really brings out the shadow detail extremely well, better than I seen before with DVD's.

I need to get my old Moome card fixed though, as it has problems with HDCP. I alwasy have to power cycle the card to get it to connect with the dvd player.

I setup the DVD player tonight on my XGLC properly, played wit the settings etc and got it dialed in.

I watched my Superbit of the 5th Element. This thing is awesome. No black crush, in built sudo-gamma correction when using the contrast setting. The detail is spectacular in 1080i, and is the best image I have seen from a DVD player. It really closes the gap with BD. Not quite obviously, but unless I told someone, they would believe me if I told them it was a BD movie.

For a CRT like mine it is a perfect DVD player Smile

Make sure you don't use Vista for your HTPC if you want powerstrip, I have a 7950GT and with Vista powerstrip is only partly usable, all the big buttons for geometry centering and size still work but custom refresh rates and porch settings are off. As an example it states my output is 1080p 18 to my G70 when I am running 1080p 60. I've been toying with reinstalling xp on my HTPC to get rid of this headache.

Yup, Vista is the bane of my existence with this. I think I will have to do a dual boot, as Vista is already on it. If I do that, then I can use the current 8500GT card with Interlaced mode as in XP there are no problems. Again, blown away by the XDE, it's 80% as good as BD

I installed a copy of Windows Fundamentals for Legacy PC's (WinFLP) on my Wife's laptop yesterday. It is an older Celeron laptop 1Gz 256mb. What a great OS. It is a no frills, barebones version of XP. Fully running, it uses less than 90mb of memory and runs like a dream.

Even with IE & Excel running it did not use more than 180mb, awesome to see XP run so fast. No clutter, no mess, nothing you don't need. The only thing that does not work is Dialup Networking, but I never use it so I don't care. Though if you use Bluetooth this could cause you problems.

Aside from that, it is the way to go, PDVD and WMP all work no problem I will never go back to a full install of XP again after seeing what XP without the crap runs like.

I highly recommend it if you can get a copy.
