Hello,
again I have problems with my old Barco Graphics 800 and I'm thinking to replace him for a other model !
What would you do if you have to choose, a current D-ILA version or a 9" Barco ?

Depends on price, of course. If the price is free to about $1500. you're likely fine, more and you have to put more consideration into it...

New tubes alone I would Pay $1,500. The best display I have seen has 9 inch tubes and yes it's analog and a Barco CRT
Sorry Chip but...

I've seen the new jvc 350 and 750,both calibrated in proper viewing environment on a modest 100" screen.
The image was very bright and very sharp, black levels were O.K.But in all honesty it just looked flat,it didn't have that depth and 3d'ness I am accustom to with CRT.I really dont understand what people say when they mean "inky blacks"when it comes to digital,I have epson tw700 for gaming and sports etc and the closest it comes to black is dark grey,so I went to the viewing with an open mind and if it was close to crt I probably would have bought one.
Unfortunately IMO there is still "that hurdle" regarding black and 3d'ness that still eludes digital displays, everytime the room goes black at home,I have a smile on my face, even the wife appreciates the effect.
It depends really what your main priority is regarding pic quality. If you dont want to compromise Full fade to Black and image depth then a 8" or 9" crt upgrade is the only option. If however, you'd rather brightness, sharpness, better uniformity and ease of setup then maybe you should opt for one of the jvc's.
There's also price! here in Oz the jvc's go for about 9k aud, while I paid less than half that amount on
my 1209s

I guess you've never seen a 4600HD with color corrected c-elements and a great setup. You're welcome to visit and I'll loan you a hammer to take home with you
I'd be willing to bet money that you could set up 4 identical screens with four different 9"LC's (G-90, 9500LC, 909 and 4600HD) all with same condition tubes with red and green c-elements. If they were all set up and calibrated by the same person running the same source equipment, pop in a movie and you could not pick out your own.

You're probably right I asked a couple of guys who have had both 1209s and 909 and what they said was "you wouldn't be able to pick the difference watching a movie"So I ended up with a 1209s with lug's.
I think they differ more in controls and adjustments but if the end result is the same who cares? But then again what do I know?

Also the 909 has louder fans than the 1209s in my experience. The Cine9 had modified firmware and runs much quieter so I am told (never seen a Cine9).

Don't start spreading lies like this or resellers like Elaine might go out of business.
I mentioned this to tse once about the differences between brands if they were running the same tube/lens combo. I don't know if he wants me to reveal the dirty truth, but he said you probably wouldn't see much difference. Sorry G90s. For what it is worth, I have seen a well set up G90 and wasn't blown away. The owner alluded to the same thing. For all this great talk, we both thought there would huge difference between the G90 and his old 135LC, but at least in my opinion there wasn't. This isn't to say 9"ers aren't great, but to me the biggest upgrade in CRTs is AC to LC.
Chip,
While I am outing tse, I should mention he bought a 1209 and said that the Ampro was petite and sexy in comparison to that supertanker.

I think he was talking about the AmPro 3600 he had been using. I was not aware that he bought a 1209. I haven't sparked up the 3600HD that I have hanging out in the garage for months. That sucker is quite special. It does the cleanest 1080P I've seen out of a 8" projector. One of these days I'm going to adapt a set of lenses off my NEC (color corrected) and see what it can really do.

In my humble opinion, the best color I've seen from a stock projector was from a NEC PG Plus. The 4600HD got close when I added the red c-element, real close but I think the NEC still takes it.

No, I believe he has a 4200 and I think he has seen a 4000 series Ampro or two. The 1209 was bought on a whim (I think). It was local and damn near free, but he said he could hardly get it in his car (or his car in the Barco) .
