|
|
Hi all
I have a local retired barco tech who is willing to help troubleshoot my 1209s issues,he has a whole bunch of 1209 boards in his garage I explained to him I had a 2002 model 1209s so he is looking into service manual schematics to see if the boards are 100% interchangeable.
Curt's been great help and has bent over backwards in trying to help me but I have taken up too much of his time so to try and speed up the process I thought I'd ask the barco guru's here whether or not all boards are interchangeable,I have the later model set if that helps.

Yes, no, maybe...... and, it depends.
Some boards are likely compatible with earlier boards, but Barco made a number of changes on the 1209 through 1209s family. For example, the early 1209 used large enclosed neck boards and the newer ones use a more compact open, smaller design with surface mount components. Also, the input video chain on newer 1209s projectors had input switching boards, quad decoders, rgb preamps, etc. that were all redesigned and had small coax cables running between the boards and they also used some surface mount components. These kind of things can't be mixed and matched.
Some of the other are going to be more compatible and will likely interchange. Such as, horizontal, vertical, SMPS, deflection switching, focus/shift, convergence.... boards.
I would start by comparing board part numbers before swapping anything. Make sure you have matches. On the other hand, if your tech's supply of boards are in unknown condition you might do more harm than good. Alway some risk.

Hi,
Glad to hear you have some help on the way....maybe this info will also help a little...
If the 1209 parts are after 1998, then you have a good chance - otherwise the smps and G2
are definitely not interchangeable, input boards (except port3) are not interchangeable,
V & H & Focus may be, but I have not tried it. convergence might run but won't have all
features, and will likely throw an error code, and control boards definitely won't (tried it - no go)
And the earlier type neckboards are obviously and completely different. A risk is the Sony
neckboards used briefly, they are a danger but are easily identified by the red HV focus wire.
The pinouts are different - never use with MEC tubes unless your name is Ile (!)
Quad and EHT are different and should not be interchanged - risk of failure. EHT and quad
can be backdated by changing the jumper on the motherboard, but this is not so easy to
get to.
In general, if the part #'s aren't exactly the same, there is a very serious doubt they will work,
and even if the part #'s are the same, such as convergence boards, there may still be issues.
A very good guide is to look at the serial # stickers (small white w/ oval ends, for ex. 119xxxx)
yours will likely be 119xxxx, and in 1998 they will be 111xxxx -- 110xxxx and less will be no go.
Barco is pretty good about not booting if there's an issue, except for the EHT/Quad changeover.
Regards,
G

So it would be a good idea to check part #'s before changing anything correct?
Or do I need to find the exact same model runco 1101 boards to replace mine with, man my head hurts,I'm thinking maybe this expedition to fix this thing is going to cost more money than I would want to invest.
I can't part it out coz I don't know which board is a problem and could'nt guarantee any board as working.
I may just stop and save up some more and get a better digital than the one I have ATM,dunno, need to think about it.
Opinions are welcome but I may just take it to the tip and cut my losses before it gets ridiculous.

I'll keep at it

Dave, sounds like you need a break! literally and figuratively.
Maybe put it aside over xmas for a week or two and have a go at it afresh.
My BG1209s hangs upside down for the first time this evening.

Well Mark suggested I pull the EHT then remove the H/deflection board,I did this and now the pj doesnt cycle in and out of power anymore and I have no "error led" coming up.Am I correct in assuming it's the H/def board? If so is it interchangeable with a 1209?
Cousinit sure knows his barco's

Bastard
Yeah I know what you mean, usually it's not an issue however, let me explain what else has gone belly up in the last 2 weeks.
First the hdmi out on my marantz dvd player shits itself,no prob component is good enough
Second my xe1 decides to freeze and shuts down on hddvds so send that off to repair.
Xbox 360 RROD for the second time, serously, what a POS!!!
Just when you think nothing else can go wrong,my backup digital pj shits itself and needs a new optical block.
So there you have it,all my source and display equipement gone at the same time What are the odds?
Actually my wife put my mind at ease,I told her that I didn't really care about all the other equipement, the only thing pissing me off was my crt being down,so she replied calmly "So....big deal...if it's stuffed, just get another one,it's only money and not worth worrying about ) Sometimes I love that woman

I thought it was just easier to record the issue I was having before cousin.it's solution.
Sorry about the crappy pic

G1208, G1209 and G1209s all have R7621085 horizontal deflection board. Also R7621127 vertical deflection board is same.
Rare Datas have different h/v boards though.
Hsift R762271 and G2 R762120 boards are also same in 1208,1209 and 1209s.
1209s have newer smps, but according to Barco numbering system 1209 smps should still work.
Port3 are same.
All other boards are different. Eht should still work if you chance whole hv chain.

I've been talking to Dave about his problem and had him check the Hshift+Focus board and he has a R7625035 installed. This is a BG808s part, not the 1209s part I was expecting. I've never seen it like this. Is this something Barco or Runco did later? (This is a Runco 1101 I think.) Is it okay? Anybody else seen this?
All that said, the serial number sticker on this board matches the rest of the boards.....

If the serial numbers match, they cam einstalled from the factory.
The Hshft + focus between the BG808s and the 1209s are the same. Maybe the cooling on the 808 models is a bit different, but that's it.
In general barco boards can be swapped if the partnumbers R76..... are the same. Later date boards might have an 0, 1 or 5 added to the number, but that is just a revision, the boards are stil interchangeable.
The date on a board can be found. It is written (in copper-trace) on the board as 0799, that would be week 07 of year 99.
About your poblem:
The Hor.Defl board could very well be defect, and the 1209 board will work just fine in your 1209s. Maybe the lineairity is a bet less, but that can be adjusted to some degree.
A 1209 is a very good source of spareparts for a 1209s.
The method to remove individual boards until the projector powers up (fans start spinning, that is) is a legitimate way of troubleshooting a barco.

I'd like to see a list of all the board numbers in the different Runco 9" models. I'll make one of all the boards in my 1100.

Most of the boards in a 1208s can be used in a 1209s. On the two I have here both use R762271 the part # shown in the 1209s service manual.

The wrong board might not communicate with the horizontal deflection board or cause a failure on the horizontal deflection board R7621085 as I remember...
Curt might have more info on this but that part# does not seem to belong in a 1209s.

Mark has been guiding me through some troublshooting as I try and fumble my way around
I am having issues with my remote/s and Mark thinks maybe this is a spinoff of the problems I'm having.
This is the issue;
P.J will power on from the wireless remote but will not respond to any other command, even shutdown. This is the case even when I connect a jack to the wireless remote directly from the pj.
The internal remote that swivels out the back is not working and has never worked,so I have never used it.
I have covered the IR points on front and back to see if anything in the room is interfering with it,but unfortunately that has proven not to be so.
Thought maybe some of these symptoms may sound familiar to someone who may be able to help.
