Fro some, like me, CRT is a hobby , and because you can tweak them change parts mix and match crap from one brand to another etc it is more inviting than a simple buy it point it turn it on PJ. To me its not fun, I had digital too, i always wanted a CRT PJ and finally they wern't 30,000 Smackers, Sure I spent thousands so far on CRT related stuff and HD but its the shear enjoyment i get when i change something or do something and it works . The feeling of accomplishment is more to some than it is for others. I am sure the OP was elated with the compliments from Curt and has that satisfactory feeling that I got when i first nailed my First CRT set up.
But deleting some very usefull info for the CIH thread has probably going to upset many people who switched like you and want a knowledgeable person
to lead them on their quest. if there is anyway it can be reposted it be great for everyone, Dave your Ego isn't that big so just sit back have a smoke and calm down.

He has already said he is interested in the converters and such (that cost $200+) and that $220 is the number "to date". Thus, $220 is not his final budget. I don't know what his final budget it, but it appears it is at least $400 (maybe more).
Currently on AVS there is a Marantz VP4001 which they are asking $800 for. If you don't want to go that high, there is a Panny AE900 asking $500 and an Optoma HD70 (which after a new bulb) will run just over $500.
All of these are 720p and will throw an overall better picture.
I've not heard back yet, but I just helped a Barco 1208/2 owner find a good 720p DLP for $550 shipped. I'm not sure if he thinks it is overall better, but his initial impressions where he very much liked it, enjoyed the increased shadow detail, brightness, and sharpness.

Yes, Curt has made it abundantly clear that he does not want advice posted on this site which could help people save money if it means not buying a CRT. My post would help others that come here in this situation--but you guys don't want to do that. You want to see people waste their money. Sorry, my ethics will not allow for that.
The funny thing is, had he posted in the CRT forum that he was thinking about paying $220 for this PJ there would have been a long chain of replies that all said "NO EFFING WAY". And you guys would have been OK with that. But, post that after the fact to:
1) Help others from making this mistake, and
2) Advise OP to cut his losses
And you guys are all up in arms. Way too much hypocrisy for me.

Curt has made it very clear that he:
1) Does not want anything seen as "pro-digital" information on the site, and
2) Is not planning to maintain this as a home theater site once CRT is completely dead.
It has been discussed many times whether this is "Curt's forum" or a general "Enthusiast forum". It always comes back to the point that it is "Curt's forum". Therefore, it is only right to adhere to his wishes.
Look at it this way, if a Volkswagen car site is so massively pro-VW and anti-Honda (for instance), then posts that help people switch to Honda will not be welcomed. This is the case here. Curt has stated that and I will respect it.

It's OK. Dave is having his annual hissy fit, and sabotaged a thread that I was going to actually read today to gain knowledge about CIH, which right now I have no reason for doing, probably because I'm ignorant.
He'll call us all names, and tell us we're living in a backwards world with the dinosaurs, then he'll disappear for about 3-6 months, and eventually come back... maybe.
You're right, it doesn't personally help my cause at all for having a digital forum, but it's there. I don't read it really.
All I asked you to do was be nice to a newcomer, and you got all bent out of shape, as you have once or twice before. No biggie to me.

No offence was taken here.
I bought this because my 60" TV would not fit through the door of my new bonus room. They ended up breaking a tube inside trying to get it in the room. The tube leaked onto the control board and fried the unit.
We ended up taking it to a city recycling collection event and took honors for bringing the biggest TV.
Curt is right, I have already purchased and use this projector for about three months now, purchase price is now historical. I am very pleased with the unit, it makes a comparable picture to my big screen but twice the size and my three year old thinks it is the best thing since sliced bread.
I noticed the picture is much better with DVD's versus Dish Satellite. The previous owner said I could purchase a box to use the R,G,B, HD VD inputs.
That brought me to this site. My hopes are to be able to use the componet output from my DVD player and Satellite receiver and possibly get a better picture than using the current single video input. I think 1080i capability would be plenty for me but of course I do not own a HD player.
Also, I am hoping to show presentations through this via my laptop. I did not know if the Crescendo box would help me do this or not.
My plans are to use this until it stops working.

Then -Dave notwithstanding- you are in the right place. Does your DVD player do 480P? If so then the Crescendo box will allow you to interface the DVD to your projector via RGBHV. 480P is 720x480 progressive and should look better than your 480i interlaced.
I find it makes the picture about twice as bright and smoothes it off. As Curt said you might be able to get 800x600 into it not idea for power point but it may be do-able. Also 1080i usualy looks best on the older projectors.

So I can use the samsung via componet cables to the RTC2200 then to the projector via RGBHV.
