Well, I just got around to implementing one of these solutions. I'm using it on one of my DirecTV HR21-200 HD DVRs via the eSATA connector. Worked like a charm. Already have recorded some HD onto it and have 14 items on the To-Do list for this week.

I'll be repeating this solution for the other HR21-200 HD DVR. The drive is nice and quiet. The MX-1 enclosure comes with an internal fan that resides underneath the mounted drive. The drive is a 1TB 7200 RPM 32MB cache OEM I got for $99, and the MX-1 was $39.77 at Amazon.

Good to hear, Wan! The old man and I will be doing the same thing, soon.

My Dad and I took advantage of the Black Friday deal at Best Buy and bought a Western Digital MyBook eSATA/USB2/FireWire 1TB drive for $139 to try with the HR22's... BEFORE we read the thread info about the Antec solution.... The WD drive was a no-go. It's been redeployed to computer use.

I'll order the MX-1 and a 1 TB drive. What drive mechanism did you use?

Not sure what you mean about drive mechanism. The internal connector is SATA2, and the externals are eSATA and USB2 (and I used eSATA).

The brand/model of mechanism, I mean... Seagate, WD, Samsung, etc.

Per the title, Seagate.
