I'm not knocking Chip at all, and he'll make whatever decision works best for him, but I find it a bit ironic that...

> "I do like the more film-like ability of the CRT" <

where in many cases, people are willing to pay more for better PQ. And a "film-like" characteristic is something many would consider rather important. Now with the perception of decline of CRTs in some folk's minds, they aren't willing to pay less for better PQ. Shocked Other factors simply trump PQ.

I had my 1352LC installed for over 2 years and it was never touched for 1 second, what is there to tinker with after everything gets lined out?

short of maybe a greyscale touchup every 8 to 12 months, wait until you see how often it needs to be done on a digital, they move all over the place as the bulbs go from bright to dim

I do not believe for one minute that the only reason why people buy CRTs is to tinker with them. Aside from being living proof of getting someone else to setup the goods, I am only concerned with black level and on/off CR. If that is achieved through an inexpensive 120" flat panel based on SED/FED or some other technology, its going to be considered.

Of course, I naively thought folks into CRT were mainly for the PQ aspects I am for. I never considered the primary aspect of CRTs being tinker-worthy entertainment. Smile

your points were also reasons I switched too. But i then "discovered" all the tweakers doing stuff and I got hooked Wink

Curt's previous sig line was "CRT's are like crack, and I'm happy to be your dealer"

You're hooked Nash Laughing

I have a digital now too to streamline things for others and myself if I want to just keep it ultra simple, but everyday I check Craigslist to see if anyone's dumping something that I desire...sometimes this happens multiple times a day...then sometimes it's over to Crazedlist...just waiting for something to come up and blow my mind. It's like gambling where my time is money. Thankfully, I have a bit more time than money to spare right now...but anyways, CRT? Crack?

Yes.
