And the sense of a half eaten twinkie.
245 mile round trip to pick up an 8500LC with 1000 hours which turned out to be an 8500AC with 6/10 tubes. It also had cosmetic and (minor) structural damage that looked like it had been rolled over improperly.
I should have asked what lenses it had, or otherwise vetted it more carefully. Five and a half hours of my life I'll never get back.
--Edit: To be fair, the seller seemed truly ignorant of the nuances of CRT and does not appear to be out to scam anyone. My LC assumption came from close inspection of the picture of the front of the unit, where the shiny beveled aluminum edge of an HD10 was suspected.

Not to hyjack the thread or anything but speaking of break-downs Heywood, my comany supplied work van died in the middle of the road yesterday at 9:00AM. Remember what it was like at that time? I spent 1-1/2 hours waiting for a wrecker or someone to plow into me.

A sure way to never let that happen again is to note that the LC projectors lenses have a definite different spacing than AC lenses. No need to try to see the actual lenses, just look at how much space is between them. If its big, they're LC, small spacing is AC, definitive.

I'm not convinced the pics were the actual item...

if it was e-bay start a dispute.

No dispute needed... I simply walked away. If it had an 03 VIM I'd have taken it for the agreed price, as it was I dropped my offer to $200 (which was turned down.)
It did not even dawn on me to offer him ten bucks for the OEM ceiling mount. THAT I could have used!

Well, there's no solution for a seller who lies.
The first question I used to ask was "Is the picture of the actual item for sale". I stopped that years ago, since so few people I dealt with were ripping off pictures, but I guess it still happens...recently I asked that about a laptop I bought for $53. because the description said it DID NOT include many items that were clearly installed in the laptop(ie. hard drive, memory cover, memory, etc). When I got the laptop, it had everything pictured, as I was assured it would, yet the seller stated it didn't include any of that stuff...weird.
