Just switched my beloved barco on, lots of arcing, switched it off.
Anybody know where the best place to start looking for a leak on these would be ?
Thanks in advance.

USe your eyes..
If the arc is loud enough to hear, it will be easier to see. It can be anywhere between the HV quadrupler and the tube HV leads. Have your hands on the power cord to pull the plug as soon as it arcs. Every arc stands a chance of destroying boards in the set.

if it's arcing that bad you should also be able to see a black sooty burned mark inside the case where it's leaking.

There is some sooty looking stuff on the inside of the case by the (i think) g2 focus thingies, I was just a bit weary of turning it on with the case up. Chance of death ?

black sooty stuff all over is normal. A HV leak will look like a lightning bolt struck in one spot. Look at the right side of this picture, startaing from the bottom right HVquadrupler follow the high voltage connections all the way to the splitter and then to the tubes

I have an extra HV splitter from an 801s if that could help you.

I really don't know as I'm no crt tech, I assumed that I would just have to replace the leaking HV cable ?

Mooe likely it's leaking somewhere else and simply traveling up the wire sleeve to that spot. Good chance it's the splitter, Barco's came with sh*tty splitters in them. Try disconnecting those 2 HV wire from the splitter (power OFF) and see if the arcing stops.

It is leaking at that spot, I don't understand how the charge could flow into the cable through the sheath though.
Zebu, could you pm me so that I can take up your offer of a splitter from an 801 ?
Thanks.
