If google cache of CL is to be believed the asking price for the CA one was 2.5x what the 1100s on Ebay went for. A good price for a set with less than a 1000 hours.
Funny enough one of the Ebay 1100s is now on CL for 2.5x its Ebay price. Looks like Curt was not the high bidder after all.
Edit: Wow if it was the videogon one that is a great price even with shipping.

yep, you guys have it figured out already
this is a 1101, not the 1100
even if I have to put a few new LUGs in it won't kill me

Is it just a software upgrade to make these Graphics instead of Datas?

would love to know that, I am guessing yes because at shipment the Runco was locked from taking anything over 1080p/60, it was a software lock
not that it matters to me either way as I do 1920x800p/60 in a 2.40:1 sized raster, I don't see myself ever going above 1080p/60 either

If these are Barco Data's then you need more than a software upgrade to got the the Graphics leve. Your need a controler board, and several of the "scan" boards at a minimum. MadHatter documented the necessary changes to make a Barco Data 1209s into a Graphics 1209s. A search here or over at AVS would probably turn up the details but as you say probably not be worth doing.

Sec, the weird thing about the Runco 1101 is that it is confirmed to be graphics hardware but the software was set to lockout everything above 1080p/60hz, which is the maximum that the bundled Faroudja/Runco processor allowed, so they tied them together in sorts
this may be wrong but it is what I have pieced together from 4 or 5 sources/posts, I think Kal may know about this some as well

Gotcha if the hardware is there then a software update should work assuming you could lay you hands on one these days. MatHatter had some firmware updates and you look always look for a controller from a late model Barco 1208s/9s though finding one with the late model firmware that is probably in the Runco would be hard and your Runco would then self identify itself as a Barco .

If the bundled processor was the limitation, why would they bother with restricting the projector? Why not just leave it alone?

It could be the same reason that Intel locks processors to operating at a lower speed even when they are capable of higher speeds, namely market differentiation (why flood the upper end of the market and hurt your margins). I am guessing Barco didn't want Runco to raid their simulator business? I honestly don't know but IF (big if here) the hardware is the same then the software must be the limiting factor. Or maybe it was so they could optomize things such as maximum cooling fan speed to a lower level to make the projector quieter for HT use. I seem to recall that the Cine9 is software rate limited as compared to the Reality 909 for this reason.

From what I am aware for Data 7.14 and Graphics 7.23 are their respective latest firmware,so anything higher than 7.14 should be a graphics in theory.

There are VERY FEW DATA 1209s , these were a reduced bandwidth PJ and brought with them a lower cost, Barco gave this unit to Runco whilst they kept the Graphics version - Why give a competitor your best model ???
.....from the above post.....

talk about a confusing bit of info on the Runco
so they are Data units but have stepless Scheimpflug adjustments like the graphics, they also have LUGs and HFQ900 lenses(for the 1101)
they also have the 120mhz neck cards and same listed bandwidth as the BG
every person that has looked at a 1101 says it is a graphics 1209s or possibly a 1209s/e
so what gives here?

ok here it all is right here:
http://www.curtpalme.com/Barco1208_Downloads.shtm
what I noticed from the sheets
-Data and Graphics both have stepless Scheimpflug
-Data says 120mhz bandwidth, Graphics says wideband 120mhz bandwidth
-Graphics says new and improved high brightness CRTs
-Graphics says lens options available for various screen sizes, Data does not
-Data Horz. scan 75hz, Graphics Horz. scan 135hz
-Data and Graphics have different minimal retrace times, Graphics better
-Data max display rez 1280x1024, Graphics max display rez 2500x2000
thats all I see in these data sheets that is different
a few interesting tid bits on the Runco:
the data sheet for the Runco 1101 says Horz. scan rate limited is 75hz, but it lists the same minimal retrace time as the Graphics NOT the Data
Runco later offered a updated power supply and updated sweep board setup for the 1101 for a service cost of 1500$, the 1101 I bought has had that completed in spring 07
I am guessing the Runco 1101 was a hybrid of sorts with Graphics everything and a Data scan system that is more than adequate for the HT market, the Runco update probably eliminated that 75hz limit, just a guess here
