I have a Runco IDP 980 set and a Runco SC2050 (line doubler). I bought this directly from Sam Runco after I met him at CES in I think it was 1996. Very nice guy he invited me up to his factory and gave me a tour and then sent someone out to my house to install and calibrate it. About six years ago I had one of his guys come back out and do a check up and recalibrate it after we had an earthquake that seemed to knock it out of adjustment in relation to the screen.
Other than that it has worked perfectly until last week, the picture did not come on right away, but after about 1/2 hour it did. Now when you first turn it on the red and green tubes flicker then light and then sut down after about 10 seconds. The blue tube does not come on at all. When I open the cover I can see a low light at the back of each tube, the fan stays on and all of the lights at the back panel are lit. The 7 segment led display shows "00" and when I press the info button on the remote nothing displays. I also unplugged the RGB cables and turned it on and nothing happens.
I don't know the exact hours on the tubes or chassis since I cant get to the menu, but we never use it for TV watching, only the occasional movie. Maybe 20 tops in a year so it has to be pretty low.
Any suggestions from you experts?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
GarlicGreg

This most likely is a bad LVPS or deflection board. Since no error codes come on on the back of the set, it's pretty hard to diagnose accurately, but that's most likely it. Since you get no light output from the tubes, chances are one of the deflection circuits are bad, or the LV power supply is intermittent, I've seen both those cause an intermittent/no picture condition recently.
RElatively easy and cheap repairs, shoot me an email to curtpalme@shaw.ca if you want to send those boards in.
