I'm finally getting my rack dressed up and I was thinking about updating the HTPC a little to an HDMI-based card to clean up cabling and switching. Any opinion on this Asus Radeon 3450? It's $20 after rebate, fanless, and has on-board audio.

Not expecting miracles. It would be replacing one of the very first PCIe video cards, not high-end... can't even remember what it is. Not planning on BD/HD any time soon. I use the HTPC mainly just for playing demo clips, streaming, farting around, etc.
Thanks!

That's a cool card! They separated out the analog from the HDMI and give you a proper VGA output! Fantastic!
I paid $245 for my 3450 about 10 months ago, it's a bit fancier and has more memory but for $20 I'd say go for it!
EDIT: looked up my price and corrected it.

That's funny, I almost bought 2 of them from The egg as an Open box for $20 bucks. If I hadn't walked away and come back to insuficient quantities, I would have used the processing power to take over the world. Or just watch Iron Man on BR.

That's funny, but considering I had the same thing happen on 2 $30 AMD 45 watt X2s a day earlier, "lack of" may be an appropriate prefix.
An X2 with those video cards would make a perfect low power HTPC, I think.
