I mentioned this in our Blu-ray Release List & Must-have Titles thread but I thought I'd post it here as I know a lot of people order from Amazon using our links to help support the forum (we thank you!):

Amazon has just recently changed their shipping policies for pre-orders. Pre-order a movie (or anything else) and you're guaranteed the LOWEST price between the time you order and when it ships. Even if the price goes down momentarily for a 1-day sale, you get that low price! I saved a bunch off my last batch of movies from Amazon because of this (the $24 price drop of 'The Godfather Collection' between the time I ordered and the time it shipped is a good example).

To make things even more interesting (at least for me): Amazon is now breaking up orders of multiple items and *always* shipping them separately at no extra cost to the buyer. It used to be that to save money the smartest thing to do was to tell Amazon to 'wait until all items are in stock' and then ship them together (this is what I always did). That option no longer exists, and Amazon now ships items as they become available at no extra cost to you!

I just placed an order for a bunch of movies that are coming out over the next 4 weeks. I was told that I'd be receiving 5 different packages! Excellent! No more waiting!

These two features means that there's basically NO reason to not pre-order. Smart move on Amazon's part. This is of course what they want as people will end up ordering more.

Speaking of ordering more pre-orders, here's an updated list of 'hot' pre-orders: Wink

I always pick that option, and I don't think I ever paid a dime for it.

Where they charging Candaians for shipping separately?

Sorry, which option are you referring to? I mentioned many things in my post.

Oh this is very cool indeed. I use to que up a bunch of stuff then check on it periodically to see if it was available for a cheaper price. Now they do it automatically.

Hey, I selected all sorts of HDDVD's way back and never bothered to order them. When I logged in tonight I got the following page.

Notice alot of the HD-DVD's went up in price, a few went down but more up than down.

Yup. That's the whole point. Kind of annoying to have to do that and then "pull the trigger" when *you* think the price is the lowest.

Now you just order whenever and if the price dips down sometime before it ships (even momentarily), you get that lower price.

Of course, after it ships Amazon sends you all sorts of email reminders about how much money they've saved you.... Wink

Sorry, the shipping orders in multiple shipments.

I do have a prime account though, so I am an idiot. I am probably paying $79 a year for that right evidently.

I would take a look again at the Amazon Prime account and see if it gets you something worth $79. The biggest value seems to be "no minimum order size" (which I assume refers to free shipping) but don't see how it could be worth it unless you spend many thousands there a year.

Yep. I got my ~$15.00 discount even *after* the Matrix set shipped (en route).

I get free two day shipping on everything. i spend maybe $500 a year there. I think it pays for itself.

If you're only spending $500/year there I can't possibly see how spending $79 to save a day or two to get faster shipping can be worth it. That's crazy! Regular shipping to me in Canada only takes about 4-5 days, regular shipping to US locations would probably only take 3 days instead of 2. Is it really worth $79 to save a day in waiting the 2-5 times a year you order stuff? It wouldn't for me, but then I'm not you.
