|

Well, another update from Toshiba; 4.0 this time. The Toshiba site doesn't say squat about the reason, but I looked at some other sites for info. I did not find any conversations regarding changes in picture quality related to CRT viewing.
So, anybody here update their Toshiba HD-DVD unit to 4.0?
Actually, I fell asleep reading the avs thread.............

Hay Buddy, How ya feel'n? Hope your doin ok!! I did update my A-35 to 4.0 and it helped clear up the jaggies and it is doing much better with the upconversion of DVD's. Also supposed to help with some of the play problems of some more HD DVD titles.

I'm surprised they are still updating the XA2, I had one of those units and I loved it. I just wish it was BR because there doesn't seem to be a BR player that equals it yet.

Question for Wallace and John.
Did you guys compare the specs on these two machines before your respective purchase? There seems to be quite a price gap on ebay for these two players. I want to buy one of these but still undecided. I don't have HDMI recvr so I would use analog audio out to Denon 3801. Up conversion for standard dvd's is also major consideration. Price on some HD dvd's is down to $.3.99 at Fry's.
Any thoughts appreciated.
Philip

I didn't do any comparisons. When I bought my XA2, it was almost as cheap as the A35.
Also, thanks for the tip on Fry's. I picked up some HDs for dirt cheap!!!

And they apply $4.98 per disc for shipping!
Wallace, from what I am seeing now on ebay, the A35 is always quite a bit less than the XA2 so I guess you got a good deal.

If it were me, I'd go with the A-35 for price. Not too much longer before all titles on HD will be out on BD. At that point, it would be a mater of which player will upconvert SD better (still many old movies I watch that probably will never be out in a high def).
As for the Fry's deal, heres what I got:
Bullitt - BD 12.99
BOURNE SUPREMACY - HD 4.99
BLOOD DIAMOND - HD 8.99
BOURNE ULTIMATUM - HD 11.99
Total $: 38.96
Shipping & Handling: 6.32
Grand Total: 45.28
Looked pretty damn good to me.

lol.
Trust me, I've already reserved space for them. I might have to move the massive Beenie Baby and MatchBox Car collection I have to make room, but we'll find a way.........
