What projector are you running that with and what are you brightness and contrast settings?

Recently, I've thought about looking into this because the goofy HD215 lenses on my PJ put the corner focus a few inches out from the screen at the edges, so the wilsonart would be easy to make a mildly curved screen with and get great focus accross the screen.
The problem is, I've yet to see a DIY screen of any type that has the punch and pleasing appearence of my Da-lite 1.3 gain screen. In fact, the only screen I've liked better than the Da-lite is the Stewart. Have you been able to compare the Wilsonart to a screen like one of these? I'd really love to know the performance before spending $80 on the Wilsonart.

I don't think it is suitable for CRT projectors because of its high gain. A high gain screen causes color shift, no exception.

I figured I'd "re-Pete" these here since Z can't check A*S.
The Hulk is out on HDDVD and it looks great.
For those of you who haven't been around for a few years, my first screenshots were with a Marquee at 12' wide when the Hulk came out on DVD, so this brought back some fun memories...

Have you been able to compare it to a top shelf screen like Studiotek 130? If so, impressions?
what about a next level down like a Hurley Superglo or Dalite Cinemavision?
I've read someone that said it is pretty much the same as Draper M1300 which is sharpish, but does not have the nice positive gain look of any of the 3 I mentioned above.
I really interested in this material to build a slightly curved screen to get the edges of the pic with these HD215s in perfect focus.
Thanks,
Dave

Hi Dave,
It's funny you should say that the Hurley is the next level down from the 130. I'd like to see someone actually compare the over priced 130 to a real screen like the superglo.

I've got samples of both. The guy who bought my PJ was over and was wondering about screens so I was showing him samples. I put the Studiotek 130 up (right after the Hurley as a matter of fact) and he said "Wow! what's that?" I told him and told him the price and his reaction was, "OK, lets pretent we never saw that one".
Seriously, the Studiotek 130 is razor sharp (put the da-lite or the hurley side by side with the Studiotek and the scan lines are sharper on the 130). Also, you you break out the colorometer, the 130 has better uniformity than the other two.
If you look at the material, the superglo and cinemavision are made very much the same. The Studiotek 130 is different than them. It is rough, not smooth and reflects the light back a little differently.
I like the look of the Hurley and Dalite, but if money was no object, I'd have a Studitek 130 in my theater without a second thought.

I've got a 1' sample from Cliff's so I'll try it tonight.
Cliff's SmX was nice... much better than I expected. But my initial/remaining impression is that I wouldn't recommend it unless you wanted an acoustically transparent screen...
It had great color uniformity, which is what you would for with a 1.16 gain screen. And it is durable... nice heft when you pull on a sample... no stretch or give. The proving point was when Cliff's center channel vibrated off the step ladder and scraped the backside of the screen as it fell. It left a horrible crease on the backside of the material, but not the slightest visible hint on the front. It'll be interesting to see if the mark dissipates over time. Hopefully it does, otherwise, I'd be concerned about how vulnerable the material is when/if something scrapes against it from the front side.
That's my favorite feature of the Wilsonart laminate that I'm using now... it's indestructible. I have 2 boys and a dozen neighborhood kids over every week.
But the PQ is incredible, which is what really matters... not the durability or affordability.
Aside from the material being less durable than laminate, the weave subconsciously bothers me. I could only see it from 3' away with normal movie content, or from 1X seating distance with a solid white image.

I've read someone that said it is pretty much the same as Draper M1300 | I've probably seen over 50 HT screens... professional and DIY. I've seen several $tewart$, including Art's perf and Haflich's power-masked Stewart with a 9500 Ultra. I'd hope that they'd be better side-by-side than a $100 piece of countertop material. But in different rooms, at different times, with different projectors, I won't even pretend to compare them. But from memory alone, as a WAG they are within 5-10% of each other in any measure of performance.
I can't recall any professional screen being slightly or significantly better enough to outweigh the durability, piece of mind, availability, affordability, and PQ that this laminate provides.

I hate perfs, I can always see the holes. The studiotek 130 looks better than those.

What the hell, it doesn't cost that much, I'll order a 5x8 sheet. I'm guessing someone will want it if I don't!
Hey, any idea on the gain of it? You don't really have to worry about that with the G90, but I like the "glow" of positive gains screens. Hopefully it will have a little of this.
Thanks for the info.

The Wilsonart Designer White laminate is 1.24 gain.
Cliff's SmX is 1.16
Gain measurements using the same equipment on actual samples:

The latest (false) rumor is that Tryg offered me a free Pearl if I'd sell anyone my G90 and told the forum that I finally "upgraded".

Say it ain't so!!! If you ever do, there would be no shipping charges on the g90 if I am the "anyone" that you decided to get rid of it to.
If the dark (d#&!#@l) side ever does grab ahold of you, we will require you to do a database dump of knowledge in pdf format (at least for me...).

LOL, if anyone did make that deal, I could only guess they had not seen both a Pearl and a G90. A pearl is a big step down from the G90!
