I figured I'd "re-Pete" these here since Z can't check A*S.
The Hulk is out on HDDVD and it looks great.
For those of you who haven't been around for a few years, my first screenshots were with a Marquee at 12' wide when the Hulk came out on DVD, so this brought back some fun memories...
Great transfer !

I got the Ant Bully on HD-DVD today... it looks great too (animation always does). I still prefer Corpse Bride, but AB is brighter and more colorful...

As always Clarence...simply amazing!
<sigh> Someday....someday.
Just my luck...tax returns are around the corner and I had planned to spend the coin for MP's mods...and now there's a hold on production. DOH!!! Looks like I'll have to spend the cash on better lenses and some adapters and plan on later in the year for MP mods.

I'm guessing that stands for "Big, but F'n Bright"?
I haven't heard much about them... I'll have to check it out:
http://www.eastporters.com/usa/cart.php?target=product&product_id=188&category_id=81
http://www.projectorcentral.com/dealer_ratings.cfm?dealer_id=8818
Have you seen it that large used with CRT? Did you notice any color shift or hotspotting?
Here's another HD-DVD I pre-ordered back in October (James Taylor Musicares tribute)... it also finally arrived last night.

Clarence,
I've found the Wilsonart wholesaler here in Toledo , who say's there's about 4 diff whites - all at diff $$.
They have the "Frosty-White" /#1573-60 for $1.30 ft2, and a "Pure White" D354 for $1.90 ft2. Do you know the code on the one you're using / I'm guessing the 1573-60 based on you saying $ was ~ 1.30
I'm heading over there aft work to compare the color chips, he said the 1573 is a touch "bluer" than others.

Hi Van-
I'm using WilsonArt "Designer White" (D354-60).
I ordered it from here:
http://www.cabinetparts.com/shop_2006/grouping/?id=578&SID=5ba6453b2ccd1471201a427781297186
5'x12' = 60 sq ft
$104.73 / 60 = $1.74 per sq ft.
Plus $30-$35 s/h.
So that's probably the same as your wholesaler's "pure white". Avoid the "frosty white"... it's a dingy off-white.
The -60 means "matte" finish. Make sure you don't get anything with -7 ("texttured gloss").

I had Home Depot special order my Wilsonart piece for me and I picked it up at the local Wilsonart distributor. This actually turned out to be cheaper than going through Wilsonart direct. I paid $70.00 for a piece of 5'x8'

I was pretty sold on the Wilsonart screen, but I'm still thinking about a Behr UPW screen after looking at the "color values" chart that somebody posted on the other forum.
Using that, I created an image to try to visualize the differences in the "white" each screen achieves. I'm not sure exactly how useful my visualization really is because it doesn't really take into account gain (as in, the reflectivity portion of the material...does it?), but doesn't it look like the Behr UPW screen is quite a bit "brighter white" than the Wilsonart? The Wilsonart and Da-Mat look pretty neutral, but look pretty "grey" compared to the other materials, while the lighter materials are a touch on the magenta side (lacking green), but seem like a much brighter white. What do you guys think?
Clarence, did you switch from a Behr UPW screen to the Wilsonart, or did you have something else first?
Here it is:
I created the image using these two charts:

Clarence, did you switch from a Behr UPW screen to the Wilsonart, or did you have something else first? | That's a pretty neat side-by-side comparison. I would've never thought that the differences would look so pink and blue.
But I think there's a LOT more than the base shade. Texture... finish... gloss... whatever you want to call it... makes a huge impact on balancing gain and hotspotting.
I think it'd be a fun test to paint half of the laminate with UPW to see if there was a visible difference in base color and gain.
Your eye really adjusts to any base reference of white in a projected image. A few years ago I was in Fry's and they had a digital projector shining on a plum purple wall. I was amazed that the whites didn't look pink at all. It was kind of eerie. Anyways, that's why I'm not too concerned about the slight pastel tints between any of the paints or laminates.
It'd also be interesting to pick 2 of those laminates and ask Ken W how much of a difference it would make on his color balance calibrations.
I had Sherwin Williams UPW ceiling paint in the unfinished basement of our previous house, then I had Kilz2 primer in this finished HT until I installed the Wilsonart DW laminate.
The biggest reason I went with the laminate was because I had a seam in the drywall in the lower left portion of my screen wall. I could only see it with all of the room lights on... never in a projected image, even a solid white test screen. But I knew it was there and it started to bug me. The laminate surface is much better... no seams or roller marks.

Holy crap! I was just up taking a break from working on the HT and checked this thread... the image I made looks COMPLETELY different on my desktop CRT monitor than it did on my calibrated LCD on my MacBook Pro (where I created the image). I mean, it is COMPLETELY different.
On the MacBook, there is a pretty obvious difference between all the colors. The value was pretty similar between the Studiotek, Ultramatte, Da-Mat, and Wilsonart, but the Da-mat and Wilsonart are probably closest to neutral. The Video Spectra is a little warm (light tan/sandy), while the Behr, Studioteck, and Ultramatte are all pinkish/reddish.
On my CRT (that I thought was calibrated), the Behr looks pure white (like the background) - obviously I'm losing some highlight range), the Studiotek and Ultramatte are both VERY light (almost white) with a pink cast, while the Da-Mat is light pink, Wilsonart almost a light purple, and the Video Spectra almost a light rosey red.
I'm going to have to do some tests, but at this point, I think the MacBook Pro's LCD is a far more accurate representation of the actual RGB values than my desktop Trinitron.

I'm holding an actual scrap of the Designer White next to the screen, but there's no way to do a visual comparison... the screen just makes a backlit dark shadow out of the physical scrap.
If my wife showed me your depiction of Designer White and asked if she could paint the bathroom that color, I'd say no... I don't want a lavender bathroom. (Actually, I'd say paint the bathroom any damn color you want... if it makes you happy, what do I care? Just don't get that lavender anywhere near my HT)
