I posted this in the JohnHWMan forum but thought I'd post it here as well. Maybe you experts can see something wrong. I'd like to get this completed this weekend if possible.
" I have an IF-DVI connected to a Cable HD box but I only seem to get 480p. I believe I saw a note on the screen once about no HDCP compliance when switching to 1080i, but am not sure as it flashed quickly and disappeared. I have not been able to duplicate that again to verify the HDCP notice, I just get a blank screen with the 1080i or 720p settings from the HD cable box. I have had the card directly in a 1272 pj and did get 1080i and 720p signals from cable HD so I know it can work.
Here is the complete setup, please let me know if there is something in the mix that won't work or if I need to change something.
Scientific Atlantic HD box 4250
using HDMI out with a HDMI - DVI converter plug
6' DVI cable to IFB-DVI in a 1271 switcher (slot 6)
1271 switcher out via RGBHV to a Barco Data 801
-480p signal good says no input on 1080i/720P on DVI
-component out passes 1080i/720p through the same setup via an IFB-12 in slot 5 (green image right now, working on the
IFb 12 settings)
-The IFB-DVI also works in the switcher with a computer at 1024x768 so it is working fine.
Seems to be a HDCP problem, what in the chain is causing this?
Thank You "

John's IFB-DVI is also HDCP Compliant. I have used it before with the same cable box directly in a 1272 with no problems.

Looks to me like a sync problem, Barco's are more picky on syncs then Sony's
With this setup you can try another input on the Barco or get a scaler to correct the syncs.
I don't know if the IFB card has dipswitches or something like that to change the sync to positive or negative ...
Also when the sync is ok the picture could be shifted to far left or right.

I'm not quite sure what your using, but if you are using one of those HDMI- DVI adapter plugs, that could be it. A cheap thing to try is to lose the "plug"... and get an HDMI-DVI cable. I had some trouble with resolution using to many short cables stung together with adapter plugs. I solved it by removing the converter plugs and using a longer single cable. Just a thought.

Using a HDMI -> DVI cable instead of the adapter did not solve the problem. Anyone have any other suggestions. What about the sequence of turning on the system? pj first, then switcher, then cable box? Could that make a difference? especially for the first time?

I would get rid of the switcher and stuf, run the HDMI directly into a HDFury into the RGBHV on the barco. Much cleaner setup.

I could do that but I already have an IFD-DVI card that I want to use for HD sources. I guess it just doesn't work with a Barco in the mix.

Sorry the cable idea didn't work. I guess you could try a couple different setups to see if it's one of your components causing the issue. Hopefully you can keep the IFD-DVI card in the mix. Let us know.

What is the advantage to having an IFB-DVI card in the mix?
