I just bought this projector off of Ebay and want to try and get it working.

When you turn it on the only thing i get on all 3 crts is a small solid line right down the middle going north to south.
I have no knowledge of this projector and want to try and save it instead of robbing the mint tubes.

Thanks Very Happy

Dont run it anymore like that or you'll damage the tubes. You have a problem with one or more of the 3 horz boards.

I'm guessing this line is really dim? I've never seen an Ampro spot burn the tubes. As Mac says, check the yoke board for a connector that's fallen off. Check the HOT board for a blown fuse. Check all connectors around the HOT board.

If not, send me the three boards associated with the H circuits, any of the three can cause lack of H deflection.

Horizontal output board. All board IDs are stamped on the motherboard, there's an H processor board and I think a H power supply next to the HO board.

Sorry my bad, fell into techspeak. And incorrectly so, the HOT is usually TV shop terms for Horizontal Output Transformer..Smile

here's the board layout ID:

Yea your probably right. I just did one a few weeks ago and the line wasn't very bright. I just hate to see anyone running the machine with deflection failure.

Curt I checked the connections and the fuse on the board and it is good. About how much for a repair of one of the boards? I need to determine if it is worth it or not. Please pm me and we can work out the details.

Thanks again

If the tubes are good - pull them and put them in a barco. I have an 808 complete (currently listed for part out) except for a green tube (and neckboards) that you could have cheap.

Part out the Ampro - they are not worth the headache.

I want to fix the Ampro since it would be cheaper and less time consuming throwing the tubes
into another chasis. Spare boards anyone?

Are there any error messages? Code-30 will display any errors that should be resolved before going deeper. Also, i assume that all leds on the LVPS are green?

My guess is if you pull the horz supply board you'll find a blown fuse on it.

I pulled the Horizontal supply board and it does have a blowen fuse on it. I did a code 30 and Horizontal sweep faliure
came up. Do I replace the fuse and see what happens?

I checked all the boards and cannot see any burnt boards or blowen resistors.

Thanks for the help what next?

I replaced the fuse and was able to get the test grid to come up but it was not stable kind of shaking a bit
then the test grid went off after 3 minutes. Seems like the Horizontal supply board got extremley hot!!!!!!!!
I talked to Curt and he suggested send all the Horizontal boards in. IO am just trying to understand why the Ampro is doing what it is.

All the green lights on the power supply where green but I had red lights 1 and 5 blinking on the cpu board. Don't know what that means?
Thanks

That's all unrelated to the H section. You've more or less found the problem already. Something on the H output board is overheating, blowing the fuse. I have had the H power supply board cause the H board to overheat, so you might have two problems. Do send all three boards in if you are going to send them in.

The CPU board lights are like the processor lights on the Barcos. More or less useless in telling you anything about the operation of the set, unless there's a problem on the CPU board.
