I have HD144's on my 808 and the pictures is way better. Just be aware that you'll have to move your PJ forward a bit. |
About 8 to 12 inches closer to the screen. |
You know, nobody ever talks about moving the screen back...

There's two trains of thought I've come across with the HD144 lenses, as Tom mentioned above moving the pj 8-12 inches closer and then there are others stating to max the raster and then move the pj back and forth to fill the screen, is one method better than another or not?
Also is screen width measured totally including any black border you have or just the white viewing width?

A question to you all:
My BG808 has tinted glycol and HD8 lenses. Does the improved sharpness by itself warrant the effort of replacing the glycol and upgrading to HD145 lenses? Or am I basically 90% there already?
Thanks,
gerbrand

Gerbrand,
This would depend a lot on the manufacture date of your HD8's.
The early ones (with wingnuts) had a slightly different design
and very poor focus. A set from the 2000's however will be pretty
good and not worth all the work and cost you are talking about.
If you are looking for new lenses though, the best that I have tested
(air coupled that is) have been the HD145N series.
Cheers,
Galen

How'd you get tinted glycol in your BG808? Or is this glycol you made yourself (DIY)? Just curious.

I bought it that way, so I assume it is a DIY project by one of its previous owners. I assume there is no other way to get a colour filtered BG808 with HD8 lenses?
BTW: I have the HD8 rev B. They have a plastic knob to lock the focus. The projector is from 1994, but I assume the lenses could be newer.
So from your answers, I gather that I should basically stick with what I have.
Thanks,
Gerbrand

Yep, it'll walk right up to it, lift it's leg and let one rip |
Naw it'll just tuck its tail and whimper back to your place Chip!!
