just wanted to share this with you guys. I had an ultra convergence board here with a bad vertical amp on Blue channel. spent some time staring at the 9 little FET's and 4 big transistors debating whether to swap them all out, not a very appleaing prospect to say the least. I then relaized that even after repair It would still be a high hour board and simply not worth fixing.
So I decided the easiest thing to do was to take the special hand-soldered little jumper off the C board and simply move it over to a normal 8500 convergence board. It's 4 small solder points, 3 on the top and 1 on the bottom but it was very easy with a nice Iron and a pair of tweesers. 10 minutes later and it was all back together and working fine.
so basically, don't bother repairing the ultra specific C or VDM boards. Normal boards can be retrofited very easilly. AAMOF, the ONLY board you can not find easilly is the Focus-geometry module. the so-called "Ultra" motherboard can be found on any 1997 or newer Marquee including the 8110's, easilly identified by the lack of insualting strip on rear heat-sink and normal IDE jumper cables on both ends. The Backplane is the same on any 1996 or newer marquee.

Can you take a pic and point out the identifying characteristics? I do not know what insulating strip you mean, and do you mean the ultra boards dont have the IDE jumpers or do have IDE Jumpers?

And Maybe a pic of the solder pints and parts for the ultra conversion.

So basicaly if yuo have a 97 or newer Marquee doing this CVA mod and finding a Ultra Forocs modual and your all set?
I thouhgt the HDM had something special too or was it the back plane?

Tim wasnt there something else?

When you say Ultra CLM, you mean the chip or the board (CLB)?

I was thinking the same thing Andres? You have used both knds of boards in your ultras right and have not lost any geometry functions in doing so correct? i dont think that was one of the things on a list I got from VDC to convert an 8500 to an ultra,

I thought that there was a different version of the control board that was required to take advantage of the "ultra" features. I remeber seeing a post about it somewhere.

the old-style The Ultra VDM and CVA modules have the hand soldered jumpers. the non-ultra motherboard with insulating strip is visible on this page
http://www.curtpalme.com/ElectrohomeMarquee_Layout3.shtm
the newer style has the same small IDE conector on both ends.

you need a couple of CLM chips as well, see below

I think it's just the chips? You need a V3.1 U16 IOP and a V4.2 or higher U35 software chip.
