Completely light controlled pitch black with dark walls. The only light source in the room is the PJ--that is no equipment lights or anything.

Well, Chris and I were talking in another thread and it got me to wondering, what is your theater environment like? And don't lie! Smile

I picked #1 but if you want to get technical, yes, I do have equipment in the room. Smile

No windows, no other lights, equipment a good 25' feet off to the side where it isn't seen peripherally nor does it cast any sort of light. The screen wall is black light absorbant panelling as are the first 4' of the ceiling and the side walls into the room. The walls are painted chocolate brown (flat finish). Click on my "album" link below for pictures.

(Even 4-5 years ago when I used to have the equipment under the screen, I had all the lights blacked out with tiny little pieces of electrical tape. They were so distracting otherwise).

You left out the "wear sunblock" option, which would describe my light control. Very Happy

Hy HT is only "light controlled" at night time as it's not a dedicated room unfortunately. Still it is pretty darn good at night with all my equipment being behind the main viewing area and facing sideways.

I built a quick website to show it to my friends and family who are in different Aussie states, click here for a look: My Home Theatre

Warning, my current primary projector is digital, please don't hold that against me! Razz

Totally light controlled, except dimmed amplifier display.
I have dark blue curtains in front and back walls. Side walls and roof have black areas only near screen.

Most of the gear in my theater is in the next room. The sub did have a little green light that shows it's on but I masked that with a little electrical tape.

There's a green light at the rear of the PJ that I haven't masked. It does point in the opposite direction of the screen but it does make some light and I guess I'll mask it.

The front wall and ceiling are black and the other walls are deep dark red. The speakers are also black and the theater chairs are black and red.

There was a window but I built a small remove-able wall there which can be taken out if I need to "air" the place out from time to time.

Mine is total light control at night and about 95% control in the day. All the gear is hidden behind curtains. The walls are a medium blue, thats as dark as I wanted it being it is the living room/theater. Very Happy

100% light control, other than a bit of leakage under the door -- easily fixed with a towel if it's a problem. No windows. Walls and floor are dark purple. Most of the screenwall is black (grille-cloth covering fiberglass sound panels). Equipment is in the back of the room, so it does shine a bit of light on the screen, but the brightest offenders are masked off.

At this piont in the game it depends if the neighbour leaves his side light on (26ft side wall would make for a big picture Very Happy )but the rest of the neighbourhood doesn't mind----no really the only light in mine is from the other equipment in the room

Isn't this hobby of ours all about what is on the screen, and the ways and means to making that projected image the best we can afford? Anything else is ornamentation.

Ornamental yes,but reflected light does affect what we see on our screens.

#2. Have dark walls & ceiling, plus black velvet on the front wall. But oddly enough I never got around to motorizing any velvet for my 4:3 screen while watching anamorphic videos.

After I move, I'll be doing something about putting all my equipment into an enclosed rack with an exhaust system. All those amps tend to heat up the room a bit. Plus, in a smaller room, the stupid blue lights seem to act as a "night light". I had to put black electrical tape over a couple of the lights. :grrr:

#6, see my album. It's my living room with nice bright windows. With exception of peak summer (when you should be outside anyways), I find it more than acceptable. One day whenI have a nice big basement, I'd like a setup like Kals. Thumbs Up Lots of seating, booze and bar nearby, dedicated area.

Mines a mad scientist type lab with cables strewn here and there, many many too many CRT monitors/projectors/RPTV's?HTPC's/HDFury's/Box1020/Buf2000/ATSCtuners/speakers/20VCR's and other stuff. I love it! There's even a chair to sit in!

The most fun I had there was making shadow pupets on the flat black celing with a $3 flashlight. I had my girlfrind in tears laughing.

I'm like the kid that buys the toy just to play with the box.

( and yes there's a doulbe entendre there Twisted Evil )
