My projector shut down abruptly last night before the forced trailers had even finished. It had gone through it's usual 15-20 minutes of allotted warm-up time, with nothing seemingly out of the ordinary. It was close to 80 degrees in the room -- warm, but not crazy hot. I've operated it in warmer.

All of the front panel indicator lights are out. A couple of times in the past (hasn't happened in quite a while), I've had it shut off and it was merely a matter of wiggling the power cord, but nothing of that sort will work this time. It's on a dedicated circuit and that fuse is fine.

I went through Curt's troubleshooting section for the 70x series, but I could use a bit of help in knowing what to look for...

http://curtpalme.com/Troubleshooting_Tips_Barco1.shtm

1) I've looked through my Owner's and Installation manuals, and I cannot find a diagram of which board is which. Several tips reference the EHT board and its LED. Is there a diagram somewhere that would help locate this? I can't see any board with a lit LED, for what it's worth.

2) My set does not appear to have a rear LED as described on this page. That or the blown AC input board fuse sound like likely culprits, but again, knowing what I'm supposed to be looking for inside (and upside down) is what has me at a loss.

(I did all the installation and set-up myself 5+ years ago, so I can follow directions reasonably well if I know what to look for. Smile My electrical knowledge/comfort is limited, though.)

Thanks,
Dan

I did indeed miss that link, thanks. That gives me several things to work on, but I'm still not seeing anything labeled EHT in there... Am I overlooking something obvious?

It sounds from your description that you have no power and the EHT would not cause this. Start checking the fuses first with an ohmeter.

The high voltage power supply (QUAD) plugs into the EHT section and the next page shows the supply removed. Never seen a 708 myself though.

Hopefully Curt can give you some help. Are there any LED's lit ? See this page...

Perhaps a stupid question, but is it possible to remove the power supply while the projector is mounted on the ceiling? It seems like accessing the wires is nearly impossible while upside down. I've got the IRIS plug disconnected at the processor board, but it still feels snugly attached. I'm thinking I need to disconnect the yellow wiring, but the instructions don't mention that, and I'm not sure I'd be able to feed it back through...

From the photo the yellow wires remain in place. The gray wire to the iris is the one you need to disconnect. Looks like you can then slide out the tray intact.

Yeah, that's what it looks like in the photo, but in practice, the two boards appear to be connected together by a thick cluster of yellow wires (much more than shown) that pass through a grommit right around the middle of the unit. Also, at least some of the yellow wires are zip tied to the gray one.

I'm thinking there's a set of yellow wires contained within the power supply board (that the gray one is zip tied to) and another set that runs to the processor board, with the latter set being the one not shown in the photo and needing to be disconnected. Getting to it is very difficult, however, as the tray does not want to slide out far enough.

Athanasios, thanks, that's definitely worth checking into once I figure out what needs replacing.

All of the yellow wires unplug from the power supply. It's sort of a 2 person job, one to hold the board as it's pulled out of hte projector, another person to unplug the connectors. The red wires unplug from the HV splitter and the focus block under the top cover.

If you can wait a couple of weeks, I'll have a cheap replacement for you. IF you're in a rush, it's $150 plus shipping to repair yours.

Good thing the Olympics are on for the next two weeks to keep me entertained. Smile

I'll see if I can get a friend to assist later with disassembly...

Can you check there is power going to the power supply? Seems like it might be a loose connection or broken wire feeding the power supply.

How would I determine that? Seems like a reasonable suggestion.

Do you have continuity on all the fuses or what have you checked so far ?

Do you have an ohmmeter ?

I haven't been able to get to the fuses yet. I'm still waiting on a busy friend's assistance in removing the tray.

I've got a cheap multimeter. I don't know how accurate it is, but it should at least work in an analog sense.

Can you remove the tray enough to get to the main fuses without pulling the connectors ?

There's not a hint of power to the unit, currently. Not that I can see or hear, at least.

It sounds like a blown fuse on the main power input board but I don't have a service manual for that projector...

Looks like were back to this page.

If there is not a hint of power in the unit it sounds like the fault is very close to where the mains comes in.
If you can see where the mains cable enters the unit, try following them until they terminate somewhere (fuse, power supply etc). Try checking for power here.
It may be a blown fuse/ dodgy 220V/110V selector switch. If you can verify you have power at the primary of the power supply, then it may be a suspect power supply if no power is coming out of that.
But first check to see the ac power is reaching the power supply. It is my guess that it is not.
Also, unplug the projector at the socket and use the ohmmeter across live and neutral.
You should see some path (it may be as high as 100,000 ohms (100k ohms).
This will eliminate a lot of causes (broken wire, fuse etc).
