I bet I would feel the same way.
(But... part of me isn't sure. I'll pay shipping if you want rid of it.)

Like one's hearing, most people are not checking their vision regularly and often are in need of calibration. I just had mine done last weekend--still crosseyed.

Graham, did you mask the screen?
And why don't you want to paint the screen grey?
To me the VW100 has some big advantages that I would make every effect to keep, before I went back.

Graham, why not try one of the DIY grey/black screens they tout over on the "A" site screen section. like this one
black widow

what they dont tell u about black widow is that is wont improve blacks. it only increases ambient light rejection. regardless of what colour you paint it the screen will still only be grey in blacks.
i have done a number of test panels and while the dynamic range improved. absolute black level did not.

Graham, a masking system will make a large improvement to the apparent black level.
Nothing is more annoying than grey bars around the picture. When they are gone, it seems to make a huge difference, even though the black level in the picture didn't change.
Also, you could try a ND filter, at the expense of light output obviously. That will make black BLACK.

Mark, it's not the grey unmasked area that is annoying, but rather the grey screen you get when there should be a fade to black.
Ohh, and btw a masking system would make a CRT PJ look even more impressive.

The mask helps that a bit too.
It may change it from unbearable to just bearable.
It will really help with everything but a total fade to black, and that doesn't happen that often.

My current screen is masked on three of the 4 sides. The masking does not fix the grey screen

You seemed to have lasted a fair bit with that VW100, what was the final straw?

watched battle star hddvd last week and the space wasnt black. Then put on Castaway and in then scenes where the lightening flashes the screen didnt go black inbetween flashes.
It destroyed the entire point of the movie. I have only put 30 hrs on it since I had it mounted up.

Yeah I hear you Graham.
I've been living with a 720p epson tw700 for some time and as much as I wanted to get used to it,those dark scenes in movies were just too much.I went to demo some of the new 1080p lcd,dlp and lcos pj's and saw an incremental improvement at best.I love my space movies and series so went and pulled the plug on a runco 1101 (aka 1209s) and am eagerly anticipating it's arrival.
IMO anyone who is a videofile and can accomodate a crt is crazy not to have one(havent seen any 3 chip dlp's so cant comment)It's not only the full black that pulls me in,it's what those blacks do to the image as in image depth that has captivated me for some time now.
