I think VDC may be the only place. i was planing on asking Q4 services and Thomas electronics. They make complete
CRT assemblies for custom made projectors and I assume they all use a variation of the HD10's.
I will get on that after we get his off the ground. I have two optic companies i already contacted to replace the AR coating on my HD10GT17's. I will maybe send them a sample cear C-element and ask if they can make them in colors, and maybe get a loaner of each color so they can have the correct SMPTE colors or if some one knows the exact
color they used for this. there was a guy on here whose dad worked at 3M. he had a post about getting some free lens'
or other 3M stuff for us. Anyone else remember this guy's Post?

they were delivers scratched, all three. the tubes were packed with the lens covers on the back as should be but no tissue or cloth or cellophane to add extra protection.
the Focus screws loosened and the bottom lens came out more from the body and touched the lens covers and left a ring rubbed into the AR coating. So thay are shot I think, i never tried to use them, I should give them a shot but i know I'll see it. there are pics in the All about lens thread in the sticky's here.

So did VDC get the C-element production capacity from 3M? Does anyone know?

As for your scratched lenses, try them. There's a very good chance that you'll never notice a problem in operation.

ANY qualified lens manufacturer should be able to disassemble the lenses, strip the AR coating, and replace it. And there are
many lens manufacturers.

You would want this done by a lens shop in any event as you'd want them reassembled under clean room conditions.

Can't answer for sure, but last time I contacted them (a couple of months ago) for Red C-elements the answer was "sorry that part is not available at the moment".

AT least they didn't answer "sorry, sold out". Wink

regarding my lens', the one company i talked to in california said it be better if i removed the lens element, i guess i could ask 3M aslo.
I wonder if corning optics would do it as well?

Be aware, I contacted 3M today and actually got the right department. The man I talked to is very familiar with the C elements and I asked him if the company still has the production capacity to make more. And if they're not going to do that, I'd like to enquire about
acquiring the equipment and technology required to make them.

Frankly I don't expect to be able to afford that even if it's available. But I do like to know about these things and you never know....it
wouldn't be the first time I took a gamble!

From what i understand VDC bought the C-element rights from 3M under the agreement that VDC would still continue to supply the HD10 lens market. To me this means that f any one needs a C-element they have to provide it.
I think we call VDC and call them out on it. Remind them of the original agreement. I think Tim and Terry know more about that agreement. You should ask Tim, Chris.

Why I need/want new bellows:

Who ever did this was an Idiot !!!
this was done to all three LC housings, all the hardware for retaining the metal gaskets were rusted
to hell also !!!

And the thing is the insides are ok, I can find no holes or cracks they just need a thin layer of silicone
along the mounting surface!!! can you say LAZY !!!!!!

I dropped off the used Glycol to Dales office, lets see what they come up with in the testing of their new machine.

On to the AR coating and the possible coloring of the C-elements Chris, what do you think about this company
to do any AR coating to peoples damaged lens' and maybe add a color film to the clear C-elements? the Color coating would have to be Glycol resistant if added to that dies of the C element.

http://zcrcoatings.com/color-coatings/

maybe you can contact them also.

this is the contact i used dduarte at zcrcoatings dot com

Tom:

The lab started the testing yesterday and it is an 8 day test. We should have results next Thursday. I'll let you know the results when completed.

Ok An Update from Dale on the vapor Transmission test:

Quote:
Tom(Athanasios):

Here are the results of the vapor transmission. The EP performed much better than the silicone, at least 7.5 times better. I had the lab cut a sample off of the bellows and it did end up as silicone like the first scan.

This sounds Great!!!

I asked Dale if I decided to go forward with this how long it be before we'd see a finished product, his responce:

Quote:
Somewhere in the 4-5 week range. I still have to reverse engineer the part you provided. I will work up models and drawings to send you for review and approval probably by the end of the week if all goes well.

So far I have 33 bellows committed(hopefully those who committed wont back out) So i think I will use my own money and go forward once I see his drawings and model . I will then let people know about paypaling me the money for sets of bellows
at $50 each if you get a complete set($ 150 total) if you want only one it will be $ 75 and for two $130. So the best deal will be for all three. I decided to go this way as it will let me make my initial investment back sooner. If at a later time with in say a 3 month period you decide you want to add more bellows to make is a complete set of three i will only charge the remainder to make it $150 total, so say you bought two for $ 130 and then after 45 days you realize you want one more, you will then only have to pay $20 more. This will be the pricing I am finalizing on. In the poll at the beginning of this thread 2 people voted "I wont need three so I will pay more" the pricing i decided on falls into this voting poll question.
