OK, I'm sure we've all read about the digitals doing 2.35:1 by using anamorphic lens setup. I just recently bought a 16mm projector and also got a anamorphic/scope lens so I could show the scope movies on it. I went this route because I want to show what an actual film looks like before I show the crts off. That way my guests will see how close you can get with old tech. Now my question is why can't we have a anamorphic adapter made to go on the crt to show 2.35:1 movies. I know there is size constraints since we have three lenses instead of one, but I have a feeling it could be done.

Yeah I thought of that as well but have any of us stopped to find out how much, I have done some research and some of the anamorphic adapters simply slip over the lens. There was some anamorphic lens grinders on Sleezbay but they can only do a 1 inch lens. I would think that with a little more reasearch I could find a lens grinder to make a lens large enough to do what I want, then again I may run into a wall. the other thing I was considering was then you could do a stack and have one hell of a setup.

Also it be a waste, you wont use up the entire available phosphor and the resulting increase in useable resolution of the tube. for a proper 2.34/40 image using every possible square cm of phosphor and its resultant rez a blend set up is really the only way you can maximize all the great things that is CRT.
being able to use every line on the crt face, horizontal and vertical, for your image is what its all about.

actually you would use as much of your available phosphor if you setup the projector in 4:3/ 5:4 then used vertical stretch on your 2:35 material

I do 2.40:1 CRT, 1920x800p
it uses the same amount of phosphur as when a 16:9/1.78:1 setup is viewing a 2.40:1 film letterboxed, but this way I get to remove the black bars and focus every last bit of bandwidth and abilities on all 800 lines of resolution in HD 2.40:1 films for my XG 1352LC, if you view mostly 2.40:1 content it is the only way to go IMHO, especially it you have a 8" unit which can't do 1080p very well IMHO (it's just too much for them), not all units will allow enough vertical size reduction to hit the 2.40:1 mark though, the XG's can, you also need a scaler to do this, impossible without it, I use the DVDO VP50pro, set to output the 2.40:1 sized resolution, actively only look at the 2.40:1 portion of the image and you have perfect unscaled 1920x800p from BD/HD movies and other HD sources
check out a SD DVD even, which has big time scaling for a 2.40:1 film like Star Wars (720x300 > 1920x800), no problem for a high-end scaler:
