I challenge anyone, anywhere, to detect any difference - let alone a significant difference - between 16 and 24bit audio. They master stuff in 24 to avoid errors when mixing and effecting multiple times. Guess what that means: that's right - less than 24bits of audio is just fine.
We're technically capable of 64bit 640khz audio. Easily so, in fact. How come that doesn't make 'hd' audio 'crap' too?
HD audio is the aural equivalent of uncompressed 24bit per channel video at 8020x2048 on a 96" screen. Marketing hype to sucker guys who think that -everything- must be "better" each generation, rationality be damned.

Yes, I'm finding that out Gino.
For instance the Aussie copy of 5th Element has LPCM 16bit 48khz as the best audio (has it in Spanish too), it is the remastered video version.
The US released remastered 5th Element has the LPCM track and a 20 or 24bit TrueHD track, although it may be upsampled.
Why they do this is beyond me. It's not like they have to make a PAL encode anymore.
Other stuff I've rented/borrowed/own:
- Eragon (DTS-MA, 24bit)
- Reign of Fire (LPCM 16 bit)
- The Fountain (plain old AC3, looked terrible too, interesting film)
- Galapagos (LPCM stereo, gorgious picture)
- Resident Evil Extinction (MPEG2 I think, can't remember audio...who cares..terrible film)
- Resident Evil Apocalyse (AVC I think, can't remember audio...haven't watched it yet)
- Underworld (can't remember)
- Die Hard 4 (can't remember)
- Beowulf (can't remember)
- Final Fantasy (LPCM)
- Appleseed (AC3)
- Pixar Shorts (various)
I'll fill in the "can't remembers" when I can.
