So yesterday there was a loud pop, followed by a sizzle and my 9500LC shut down. There was the dreadful burnt smell of electronics and my wife said she saw sparks on the side of the panel, near the LVPS.

So I pulled the lvps and it was smelly, so i pulled the spare one from an 8000 I had in the garage.

it powered up, and shows a 'weak' picture but what I can't figure out is what is causing the video to 'Pulse'??

If showing the menu the text grows and shrinks in a pulsing fashion. I pulled the focus board to no effect, I swapped the HDM with another and both of these actions resulted in having no effect, the convergence is not off nor is a tube out.

I also reseated all chips, I thought the 8000 lvps was compatible, or do you think the hvps or another board may be bad now?

Just thought of something else, any idea which section of the projector would cause the lvps to "Hiss" internally when a lower res signal is applied to the vim inputs

Looking for troubleshooting ideas.

it might be the HVPS too, swap that one out too and see what happens.

picture pulsing like that is HV related. Bad HV splitter on top of the green tube, bad HVPS. Maybe a bad neck board causing the HV to fluctuate, but I doubt it.

Yippee !!!! got home and checked the HV splitter like Curt said. It was bad, swapped with another and I'm back in business.

Thank you very much Curt.
