Hi,

I recently upgraded my BG808 with HD-144 and my actual res. 1280x960@75 looks incredible.
But I never managed to get 1080p: the picture looks dark at some places and very noisy. It is a bit strange as the horiz. freq; is 75KHz for 1280x960@75 and 56.7KHz for 1080p. It looks like the number of lines is the problem Rolling Eyes.
I was wondering if someone managed to use 1080p on his BG808 and how did he get that ?

What are you feeding 1080P to your projector with?

Do you have the power supply? If not you're going to need it.

Well, I am not sure this is a HDFury issue as with a VGA cable directly to the BG 808, I also have the problem.
But I didn't know that a power supply was needed. Why is it not sold with the HDFury ? What is the point having it ?
Where can I find one ?

If you are trying to feed it 1080p at 75Hz then I don't think it will work. It should work ok at 60Hz, it does with my Data 808s. If there is a problem with the direct conection to the PC, then the HDfury isn't (the only) trouble.

I hope it's just the refresh rate.

Try 72 instead of 75

Or try to tweak the timings. Or should I say you might have to tweak it at 72Hz to keep it under the 165MHz limit of the single link DVI bus.

I had a spiffy nice post composed for you with pretty pictures but IE ate it. Mad

THe HDFury is available with a powersupply in the "Advanced kit"

The point in having it is this: THe HDFury needs more current the higher the resolution goes. So when I tested without the powersuplly cord all I could get out of my HTPC was 640 x 480. I tried with both Nvidia 8600 and ATi 3850 cards. Neither supplies enough curent ( amperage ) on pin 14 to power the HDFury at higher resolutions. That's why you need the external power plugged into the Hfury's side jack.

You can buy the 5 volt power supply seperately from here, scroll down to where you see "Extra cables or power supplies:" or find one at a local electronics shop.

The specifications from the FAQ's:

The DC jack on the side of the HDfury must follow all these requirements:
- Provide REGULATED (+/- 5%) 5VDC power with 0.5A min DC current
- Deliver the power through a small 0.65mm diameter center pin / 2.6mm outer diameter DC plug (like the one often used in cellular phone AC adaptor)
-Provide the correct polarity with 'plus' on the OUTER part of the plug and 'minus' (ground) on the small center pin of the DC jack. Trying to use an AC/DC adaptor that doesn't follow all these three requirements may destroy the HDFury.

I've run 1080P 72Hz from the HTPC looks good. I prefer 1080i 96HZ though

I run at 1080p and 50Hz. I tested that on two different BG 808 and I had the same result Sad .

I agree. 1080i @ 96Hz is what I run and it looks nice. The closest I would trade it for is 1080P at 96 but it might be too much. It's right at the edge and I don't want an oven.
Maybe 1080i@144Hz will look nice.
72 is a little too much flicker for me.

The need to stay below 165Mhz still remains.

Not sure where 1080P @ 72 is but I think it's near the limit depending on timings.

*edit* Yep you need a power supply.
I wonder if an USB cable would work.

Watch out for the polarity though. You don't want to fry the Fury.

At 1080i, I also have the same problem. It really seems to be a problem with the number of lines: 960 OK, 1080 NOK Rolling Eyes

Not all devices can properly power the HDFury because they don't adhere to the HDMI power specification where by you need enough current on pin 14 of the HDMI connector. I've tried an Nvidia 8600 and an ATi 3850 card and neither supply enough power to use the fury past 640 x 480.

This is why the HDFury has a 5 volt power port on the side. You can buy the HDFury with the power supply,

the supply is also available separately.
Scroll down to the "Extra Cables and Power Supplies" and select the corect version of the powersupply you need.

You can check your local electronics stores as well they may have a 5 volt supply that will work for you. You could also forgo the power adaptor and just get a USB power cable with the correct end on it and plug it into a spare USB port on your PC.

This is the way I run it. Again I can't stess enough MAKE SURE you have the correct polarity with the - on the INSIDE and the + on the OUTSIDE. Reversing it can damage your HDFury.

The power port is on the side of the HDFury

From the FAQ's:
The specs say that the HDfury draws it's power directly from the DVI/HDMI line but that an optional +5VDC input is provided for HDMI cables that are over 5 meters (16 feet) or if the source device is unable to supply adequate power. What sort of power supply do I need for this? When do I need to use an external power supply?
The DC jack on the side of the HDfury must follow all these requirements:
- Provide REGULATED (+/- 5%) 5VDC power with 0.5A min DC current -Deliver the power through a small 0.65mm diameter center pin / 2.6mm outer diameter DC plug (like the one often used in cellular phone AC adaptor)
-Provide the correct polarity with 'plus' on the OUTER part of the plug and 'minus' (ground) on the small center pin of the DC jack.

Trying to use an AC/DC adaptor that doesn't follow all these three requirements may destroy the HDFury. This external HDFury powering option is only needed in one or both the following situations:
- The DVI or HDMI cable is using thin gauge copper wires and its length exceeds 5 meters (16 feet).
- The DVI or HDMI source is unable to deliver the 0.5A maximum current over its HDMI or DVI pin #14. This situation often occurs when HDFury is used with cheap DVD/HD players at 1080p60 mode.
Update: The picture quality is often also improved by using an external power supply. Users are reporting that using an external power supply results is a punchier image. For this reason we are highly suggesting that everyone looking for the best image quality possible always order the HDFury Advanced package as it ships with a power supply and some other extras.

So if you get the 5volt 500Ma power supply plugged into that it should clear up the no picture issue.

Have you made sure that the H-phase is not the problem? An incorrect H-phase will interfere with the picture a lot, and this can cause darkening too.

You can find the H-phase in the geometry menu of your Barco projector.

An incorrect H-phase causes the picture to fold back into the active picture, causing all sorts of problems including streaking and the darkening of the picture.
