...kinda SUCKS.

Change one little thing like add massive front speakers next thing you know your adding a second center channel, welding a new assembly to hold them, welding new speaker stands, adding more amplifiers, getting new speakers all around, redoing the IB EQ, taking the projector down off the ceiling, redoing the ceiling and rafters to accept the new mount, adding structural support to the trusses(to redo the mechanical setup I think I ended up being 3/8 - 1/2" out of square and add a new pj mount with multiple axis adjustments) then a whole new setup and calibration, then finally the whole reason I even decided to do the maintenance - Kal's Greyscale for Dummies.... thanks Kal Thumbs Up

See if I blame all this on Curt and Kal the wife knows it must be the right thing to do because they would never lead me astray. They're Curt and Kal!

The whole room is TORE UP right now. Dust and debris and tools and parts EVERYWHERE. The funny thing is my setup is a dedicated HT/Master bedroom. Now one might say that a dedicated HT could never contain a bedroom as well. Still others might say only a pervert would build a 10 seat theater into his bedroom. And they both might be right, but for one thing. My castle, my rules. The wife takes it all in stride too, which is awesome. She actually loves it because she knows the end result will be so worth it (Curt and Kal said it would). Some pics to follow.

Shocked Wow. LOL You weren't lying...it's tore up pretty good! Laughing Your wife has a nice rack! (HEY! I meant equipment...I mean....her rack is stacked...I meant..ah hell...forget it)

Ya knowwwww....those chains over the bed.... Mr. Green

I used the same blue tape on the screen a couple times and then went to using blue nylon carpenters/landscapers twine. I have small alligator clips mounted to the frame on 2 mid points. The other 2 points are permanently attached. When I need it I just pull it out from behind the frame and pull it across and clamp it. (To make it spot on I have a Sharpie dot on the edge of the frame I line it up with before clamping it).

Nice unique arrangement. With the old duffers that visit me and always seem to fall asleep during a movie I'd be afraid to have a bed in the same room. It RA-HEEELY irks me when people fall asleep during a movie. Snoring aside...it's like watching a movie alone!
We usually have dinner and a movie night so I'm thinking I need to stop feeding my company first. Laughing

Don't let people who aren't on this forum see those pics. Those chains hanging over the bed would cause some misunderstandings with the in-laws......

Nope. My ol lady doesn't like porn. But she doesn't mind too much if I find girls who really like their vegetables. I mean REALLY like their vegetables. So it's not too bad to be me most days.

Last two movies watched;

1. About a Son SDI DVD

REALLY GOOD. Highly recomended

2. U2 Rattle and Hum HD DVD

With the new amps, the new Polk Rti12's and dual CS350 ls center channels it was the 1st time I'd ever watched it in my HT and the best of all the times by far.

Ok the real reason for the lets tear into the theater and make a bag friggin mess. draganm. He listed this crazy useful looking pj mount for a G70, Love it but I had to add 6" of height into my existing mounting hole. P.I.A.

Cool thing is my 17 yo son is in town. He loves the theater in the master bedroom concept too, and he is getting to learn the process of setting up a HT when you just barely have an understanding of what it actually is that you are supposed to be doing in the first place. Very fun. making sawdust crawling in the attic cracking your bean on a rafter. Y'all know the drill. Man yesterday I was wiping snot off his nose today we're re doing my HT . Life is very cool sometimes. Where does the time go?

These are a couple shots of today of what today saw getting done. It was a lot of work despite the apparent lack of progress.

A couple shots of draganm's mount. It's made by monger. I saw the rotational axis adjustment plate and the lateral shift adjustment and papal'd him the money as fast as I could. Yes honey it is necessary to have this fancy new mount. Both Curt and Kal say being as square to the screen as possible is an absolute for best geometry. Ok rabies go ahead and fix it....

I wish I was watching movies instead of typing...

Gotta have a lot of trust in that ceiling mount, wouldn't be a nice way to get woken up if it failed.

Waking up that way would SUCK. The opening into the ceiling is actually was actually re engineered into the the trusses and rafters. The weight is borne by being distributed across three truss/rafter assemblies. It's at least as solid as the original structure, which in SoCal new home construction, really isn't saying much.

I think it was all the drugs and alcohol I do - I mean did as a kid. Preserved me. Then there is that whole acting juvenile constantly thing, and chasing women constantly. I also am conducting a clinical trial that puts forth the theory that if you watch CRT projected movies in your bedroom/ HT with a gnarly sound system it can act as an aging inhibitor. So far the preliminary results are promising.
