I've had a lot of experience with Conrad Johnson. http://www.conradjohnson.com/It_just_sounds_right/current-products.html

Conrad Johnson's been around for ages... well respected as well (and expensive). Though I have to say: Please don't tell me that www.conradjohnson.com is their official website as that thing looks just about as old and archaic as tube amps! Wink

(seriously! it's utterly horrible for a corporate/company site. Looks like it's from the 90's.)

i've been to their home offices and r/d place in fairfax... and to tell the truth they are in the 90's. Its old tech and they are working to get better sound out of old tech. It sounds great but... the website is what the company is. Embarassed

CRT pj's are a labor of love. I don't know about anyone else but I had a digital once and yes the quality sucked but there was something missing I didn't know was missing until I got a CRT pj. That is the time and attention they require. You can only build out your theater once. You can only add so much to the area (bar, pool table, foosball, etc). After that, with a digital you just sit on your ass and wait for the bulb to pass away. Then it's WOOPEEE!!! I get to do something to it. But alas. Two screws, a tug, then a press, then 2 screws...and it's over. Back to sitting on your ass.

Right now mine is down with VIM issues...and has been for a couple weeks. And it's KILLING me not to use it. But it's also resulted in an unexpected silver lining...I've been working to finish the walls and area outside the theater. Still...I'm Jonesing for a game or movie! Crying or Very sad

Nope. I like the fact it requires nurturing, understanding, a reasonable level of proficiency... and that I have an onion layer like realtionship with it. There's always something I can do to 'make it better'.
If it weren't for all that CRT's offer and I had a <shudder> digital...the only thing that would require regular attention would be the popcorn maker. And how much of a relationship can you have with one of those? Laughing

Isnt this exactly what we are doing with our CRTs, making an old technology look great?

You can have just as much of a relationship with a popcorn maker as with a Marquee... It's just a "different" type of relationship. Wink

the idea that cheap bastards are the only one with CRT is something that I would not be pushing, it is simply not true and is only bait for people to make fun of those in this hobby

I think of CRT as being for those that care about the best film playback PQ, bottom line Wink
the cheap part is not something that many of us want associated with CRTing, while it just so happens to be true that CRT is cheaper on some levels and is the ultimate in DIY, we should be talking about the PQ merits first and foremost, instead of saying CRT is great because of the cheaper prices
-Gary
very true. I would not call a G90 stack or a blendzilla cheap. These systems typcially cost as much as 4 or 5 RS2's.

Rather then taking a chance on starting another digital/crt flame war I'll answer the original posters question with a question. "What other forums think of us?" WHO CARES!!! Laughing

Heckler and Koch had a slogan once, before they went and changed it to their politically correct one, it was:

"In a world of compromise, some men don't!"

I think that says it all when it comes to CRT projection.

CRT = H&K G3
Digital = Colt M16
