Yeah... $90-$129 seems a bit steep to rebuy these movies for the umpteenth time.

Are they coming out with a non-Ultimate version? I don't need 7 discs... just 3.

No, you need 4--don't forget the Animatrix which is now HD!!!! (Yeah, was only SD on the HD DVD collection).

You "need" the Animatrix if only for Final Flight of the Osiris which is very good, actually, better than the 3rd movie, hands down.

Personally i liked the second film as well. The third was a MAJOR disappointment .

I have never seen Anamatrix, and i also dont watch special features. So 90.00 is waaay steep for this set. But im still tempted. Sad

I'm glad I'm not the only one. I'd say 95% of special features are a waste of DVD space. I may be unusual but the only special features I've ever watched are the ones from my Star Wars IV-V-VI set, and that only because I am (or at least used to be) a geeky Star Wars fanboy. For most movies -- who *cares*!?

And I agree the 2nd and 3rd Matrix films are pretty marginal too. No way I'll plunk $90 into a set, even if you DO get Animatrix.

I wonder if they'll be offering the trilogy alone. Otherwise, you are paying for fat. And not the good kind of fat like that in a ribeye steak, but the bad kind of fat off the arse of something butt fugly.

I don't know anyone who watches them. I think those that watch them are in the minority. I'd love to see a study on this, but I'd be surprised if more than 10% of DVD watchers had ever even seen a special feature and I bet less than 0.005% of DVD watchers watch them "regularly".

It is worth a spin. Most of the shorts scale well, so it might be worth just renting it to check it out.

You would think the studios would have done some market research before they invest time and resources into creating all these who-gives-a-flip background features. If they did, then presumably somebody DOES watch them -- enough that the studios figure it's a differentiator that increases sales enough to make it worth the cost. And it DOES have to cost them quite a bit.

If they didn't do their market research, and nobody IS watching them -- well then the studios are just stupid, but what else is new.

Dave's talking about those who actually WATCH the special features vs. those who actually care about them. These are two completely different things. (Believe it or not).

The marketing teams DO spend a lot of money to find out what people WANT. Turns out that special features are pretty high on the list. That, and the extra 26 seconds so that they can call it an "exclusive/uncensored directors cut", are the differentiators to what was showed in the theaters that makes people want to buy the movie.

The fact that none of these people actually end up WATCHING the special features is irrelevant.

Marketing 101: If someone THINKS they want something and are SPENDING THEIR MONEY on it, who cares if they actually use it. The first rule of sales is to convince someone that they need or want something.

Smile

Yessir, I'll be grilling more meat today. Thursday it was brats, but today will be the ribeye.

And speaking of ribeye steaks, those steaks in the supermarket can almost as expensive as in the restaurants.

We got the sales ads in the paper today... Ultimate Matrix on Blu-Ray is on sale at Best Buy next week for $74.99

It's rare that I ever see anyone sell for less than Amazon.

Amazon's got the same price: 42% off so down to $75.

Click here to preorder 'The Ultimate Matrix Collection' from Amazon

Tempting. This is a $15 reduction from the regular $90 (30% off)

You can also get it for FREE if you buy a Samsung BD-P1500 1080p Blu-ray player! (Currently $214). Click on the link for more info.

Now showing $210.65 for me.

Dang, I don't need a standalone Blu-Ray player, but if you're going to buy the Matrix set anyways, that's effectively only $135 for a Blu-Ray player. Shocked

I had that player for a few weeks and returned it. Terrible lip sync issues that were totally NOT there with my Panasonic BD-30 player. I can't really justify buying the Matrix again either. I already have it on HD DVD and it looks great on my Toshiba A2 player. I would be more inclined to find an A35 or XA2 player to bitstream to my receiver than I would to buy the Matrix again. That being said, if you don't already have a stand alone Blu Ray player then this is a great deal.
