You know, I've heard stupid reasons to upgrade before, but this one really takes the cake. I can't tell if that's scoring one for honesty, or relying on the gullibility of buyers...

I almost decided to get a pair of x-mtm's, but then I started wondering if that made sense. Would x-mtm's be overkill for an x-cs center? For movies at least (which is most of what I listen to in the HT), the center probably has 5-10x more content & volume than the L/R, doesn't it? So does it make sense to spend $200 on a pair of sb x-mtms and $59 on an x-cs center?? Or should I forget the B-stock x-mtms, keep my current cheezy L/R, and save up for a better center? 5-10x the content yes. Volume? Probably not. Having the same speakers L C R is the best for movies. If you used the HT for music also, the X-MTMs would be better. They have more bass than the X-CS and don't need speaker stands. OH!

I already have cheapy speaker stands. 2 cinderblocks stacked up and wrapped with speaker cloth. Looks and works great, and it's hard to beat the price.
Why hard? Doesn't AV123 have a big local following?
Just checked the AV123 thread, and now MLS says he'll let ANYbody get a pair of elt525m's for $199, usually $299. Dunno how those compare to e.g. the x-cs's, but I suspect they can't compare to a B-stock pair of x-mtm's. If you can't get the B-stock you want, though ...

I believe the normal price is $299 per speaker. The $199 for a pair looks to be a good deal.

No kidding, and that's for A-stock! Pretty darn nice of him.
But if you look at MLS's review of the elt525m, it sounds like the x-ls is a bit better for HT. (He's pretty florid in his descriptions -- the x-ls's say "let's party" and the elt525m's say "kiss me" !? But that sounds like x-ls -> HT, elt525m -> music.)
Anyway -- I got an email from the poor harried soul who's handling this crazy sale. He recommended x-ls for L/R, x-cs for center. He says the x-ls is a perfect match for the x-cs, but has a bit more low end. Especially nice if you ever listen to music in the HT -- I don't all that often, but might. Looks like I might have myself a set of mains.

Yup, just talked to Kyle. I'll be picking up 2 * x-ls and 1 * x-cs for $250 -- great deal!! (Their warehouse is about 45mins away and it saves me $130 in shipping!) That's gotta be a huge improvement over the low-end Onkyo HTIB speakers I have now.

I got (2) of the x-cs's. The speakers were $59 each and the shipping was $82 for both. I guess these things weigh around 40 pounds each. You lucky you can pick them up.

Well, I just got off the phone with Luis at AV123. I was able to order 3 x-cs monitors for the $89 apiece. I'm currently on a business trip for 2 more weeks, so I just set them up for "will call" and will drive up to Longmont to pick them up when I get back. They quoted shipping at $130, but even at $4+ per gallon, I think I can do the round trip to Longmont for less than that.
So I'll move my two Elemental Designs A6-5T5-MTM's to surrounds (or sell them) and use these 3 across the front. I didn't pay very close attention when I bought the 5T5's and ASSUMED they would be 5" or 5.25" drivers and they are only 4". These x-cs's should have a fuller sound and theylll be timber matched across the LCR set.

That's the same setup that I have across the front. I will be absolutely surprised if you do not love them

When are you picking them up?
Not that it will change my opinion at all, but I will be interested in hearing what you think of them

If you're getting the x-sls speakers, you're going to have to find another use for those cinderblocks.  The x-sls are floor standers.

WOW, x-sls's!!! They have an empty cavity in the bottom that you can fill with sand for sound deadening and to make them more stable. The bottom unscrews and there is a cap there. So if you will REALLY miss those cinder blocks, I suppose you could get them ground into sand and use them for the filler!!
Yeah, the pricing on that sale was insane, and apparently they do it once in a while - maybe yearly. I've joined "the club" so I should get email notifications of future events.
Enjoy your new speakers - I will if and when I ever get home - this project I'm on in Hong Kong is looking to maybe get delayed and DAMN it's hot and humid here - both in the 90's.

My x-cs's arrived today. You really have to search to find the "imperfections" that make these B stock. I had planned on painting these to match the theater walls but I think they are to pretty to mess with. It's amazing what you get for $59 a speaker. I think just the wood would cost more than that.
