WOW, x-sls's!!! They have an empty cavity in the bottom that you can fill with sand for sound deadening and to make them more stable. The bottom unscrews and there is a cap there. So if you will REALLY miss those cinder blocks, I suppose you could get them ground into sand and use them for the filler!!
Yeah, the pricing on that sale was insane, and apparently they do it once in a while - maybe yearly. I've joined "the club" so I should get email notifications of future events.
Enjoy your new speakers - I will if and when I ever get home - this project I'm on in Hong Kong is looking to maybe get delayed and DAMN it's hot and humid here - both in the 90's.

Email notifications? Unfortunately not. You have to peruse their forum to find them. There are usually Santa Schifter specials some time just before Thanksgiving until New Years. The timing varies year to year.
It's in the 90s at home also. But it's a "dry heat" I hate that term. My oven's a dry heat also but I don't want to live in it either.

Cool. I hope to pick mine up tomorrow or Thursday.
I wonder what happened to the B-stock sale thread on the AV123 forum? It seems to have disappeared. They haven't deleted other B-stock threads when the sale was over. A few people were whining they didn't what they wanted, but the AV123 folks don't seem like the types to nuke a thread over some complainers.

Ahh, I just verified I *DO* have the x-sls's on order. Turns out they still have soms x-mtm's available (for only $20 more!!) and I'm trying to decide if I should upgrade. The AV123 guy says he actually prefers the x-sls's: "the size of the MTM's are
huge and the X-SLS's are mass loadable which means you can adjust the sound by adding more mass to the speaker. The MTM's will have more Midrange and will fill your room with sound more." The mass loading may be OK, but other than that the mtm's sound just fine. Any of you guys familiar with the mtm's, especially vs. the sls's?

I had requested the xmtm's but were told that they were all gone. Based on the reviews I have read I would go for these for the extra $20.

Well, Kyle says he has some. If he does, great, I'll get MTM's; if not, I'll get the SLS's and still be tickled. Hope to pick them up tomorrow!

Just ran down to Longmont, and I got an even bigger score than I realized. I have a set of B-stock x-mtm's, as expected -- AND an x-cs *Encore* which, as far as I can tell, is NOT B-stock! For $278 and an hour & a half on the road! That's normally about $830 worth of speakers....
My schedule is nuts and it might take me a few days to get them set up -- and I'm gone all weekend -- but I'll definitely report back when I get a chance to hear them!

Gary,
I'am sure the x-cs encore is what they consider "B Stock". I received 2 of the same and am hard pressed to find the defects. It will be awhile until I get mine hooked up so I'am interested to see what you think of them. I may pick up a third for the center if I can figure out a way to mount it without it being to obtrusive.

Well, the reason I wondered is because the invoice says "B-stock" by the MTM's, but NOT by the x-cs's! And I thought I was getting the x-cs classic, not Encore. I think I may have gotten A-stock x-cs Encore for $59!

Gary,
Do you have a metal grill or cloth on the x-cs. It looks like the encores have metal and the classic cloth. I got cloth.

From his posts over at the AV123 forum it was the metal grill.

Yup. Metal on the x-cs (which is definitely an Encore, sez so on the back), and cloth on the MTM's.

OK, here's a pic! My cheezy camera can't shoot wide enough so I had to stitch together a panorama -- sorry for the distortion.
This shot is taken from about 3' behind my viewing position. I've toed the MTM's in a bit so they're aimed just about at the camera location.
The black panels behind the MTMs are 4" of OC703 rigid fiberglass. The MTMs are about 2-3" in front of the panels, which puts them about 2' from the front wall. The black panel behind the x-cs is 2" of OC703 mounted 2" off the wall. You can just see the corners of the side-wall panels (also 2", 2" off wall) at the edges of the picture. My Klipsch KSW-12 sub is at the left. I have my original Onkyo sub in the right rear corner, but I think I'll probably quit using that one.
The fancy stand under the x-cs is the last of my cinder blocks.
Haven't had a chance to set them up and calibrate at all, but at least you can see how they look in my room! I would have loved to have gotten one of the gorgeous wood veneer finishes, but I wanted these babies to disappear when I'm watching a movie. They almost do that with the lights on!!

You are SOO lucky!! I have emailed AV123 about the same possibilites as you - no reply yet.
So do you have any impressions yet of the new speakers? They will need to be "broken in" for 100 hrs or so, but I'm interested in the Bass Response/Boomyness that you might be hearing. As noted earlier, your bass traps will probably rectify that issue.
Do they seem "too big" for your HT? Too close to the listening position?
Interested ears want to know!!
In any case, congratulations on a great score!!

I've had almost no chance to listen to them since I set them up -- gone all weekend for a boy scout canoe trip.
They don't seem "too big" or too close. If you remember what my HT looked like, Gary -- the x-mtm's are just about exactly the same height & width as my old Onkyos stacked on the cinder blocks. They're deeper but that's not noticeable from the viewing position, so they don't seem any larger.
Haven't noticed any boominess but haven't listened enough to tell. Last night I set up the Ratshack meter and set the levels, and I noticed the fronts & center don't have the same "sound" -- which is not right, since they all have identical drivers & crossovers. (Well, I guess the center is an Encore so it's not identical to the mtm's.) At first when I played the DVE audio setup section and the guy's voice moved from left to right, it sounded noticeably different on the two sides. Not sure what's up with that.
I watched a few minutes of video last night and realized I'll have to cover the x-cs with black cloth. The satin black is too reflective!

Good score! The Encore's have a different tweeter and crossover than the classics. If the panning of sound from the L to C to R bothers you too much, there is SUPPOSED to be an upgrade path (new tweeter and crossover) for all of the classics. We've been waiting for quite awhile. It was either $80 a pair or $80 a speaker. I can't remember. I think it's $80 a pair. Sean Parque, former AV123 sales mgr, will be supplying the upgrade via his company www.skiingninja.com. Sean is just waiting on the tweeters from Peerless of India. I think he has the other components. He said he has thousands tied up in components already. I'm planning on upgrading my X-LS to Encores. They have a better high end.

Maybe your ears don't have the same hearing abilities so they are sounding different from side to side?
