I know we have discussed this before and some of you have probably even tried it. I brought home an Infocus digital projector from work last night just out of curiosity. After I got over the shock of gray blacks and screendoor at 9' wide I decided to use this thing as a tool. I had toyed with the idea of redoing my geometry for a while now because I just was not happy with it. So, I put up a grid pattern that I had downloaded from either this forum or the other and measured everything to make sure it was square to the screen. I spent the next 2 hours or so just doing my geometry using the straight lines from the projected grid pattern. I didn't even use the pattern to try and overlap my XG's test pattern as I knew that would be next to impossible, I simply used the straight lines as a good reference. I know I could have achieved similar results with string or laser levels but this just seemed easier to me. Well, I'm happy to say that I got my geometry looking better than ever and convergence was a breeze after that. I never had much of a problem with convergence, just getting the initial geometry on green looking good. I ironed out some seagull effect that had been bothering me for a while and got rid of the barrel shaped image I was seeing in my test patterns. It's not perfect but I'm happy with it for now!

How about a digital-crt blend?

I've used a digital for geometry before, and it's pretty worthwhile. The only problem I had was turning the brightness on the digital down far enough so it didn't overpower the 1271 I was using...
I'm probably going to use the same technique when I get my HT up (soooon... I hope). With an actual flat/square screen the geometry should be a little easier than it was on the bendy-arse piece of foam I had before...

It was likely a business projector. A home theater digital looks much, much, MUCH better than the business PJs.

Now THAT is hilarious!

Hey, that might just work! What if I want to change screen size though? I either need to hammer more dents or patch the ones I already made.
Doug, it's too bad you live on the left coast or too bad I live on the right one because I would love to spend an afternoon picking your brain and have you give this XG a once over. So, I have to resort to things like using a digital projector for setup. I'm struggling along!

I've been doing the same on my blend. I find it easy to use the test pattern generator found somewhere on this forum and feed to each projector; that way grids can line up perfectly.
