for reference here are Pete's original pics:
This clearly shows that none of us have managed to nail the colors
Of course camera differences (like white balance settings and saturation and so on) play a major role in that. As does the color space of the photo and the capability of the picture viewer to properly handle color management.
IIRC my screenshot was taken right after a tube replacement, and prior to calibration.

Bernd,
Great pics. But I do see the noise on the yellow part (above "Z-photo"), right? This looks EXACTLY like my noise.
But please let me know how I can test your claim about the video noise. I know I need the convergence board for proper viewing, but I cannot solve a problem without seeing what happens first

The only way to go is a rack with four of these, each projecting from the back, on-axis, to a quarter of the screen. Aim for 4K. At the minimum screen size (you don't want too loose any precious light) you're talking about a nice little TV of just over 4 meters wide.

I'm still waiting about some info about the way the video noise was suppressed... Bernd, you are not on vacation, are you?

I wouldn't call this noise, not even digital noise as it is a static (!) flaw. It looks like frozen mosquito noise with consistant block size.
I am under the impression the 909 has a kind of geometry LUT that simply doesn't have enough resolution. The various geometry controls handle it different. You can use green convergence excessively, but stress top bow and it will even create visible diagonal lines from left to right. Totally annoying ..
Greg's modifications will not help here (if you are talking about Greg Eisemann).

Im only kidding with y'all!
Well I say kidding...............
I did own five 909's , sold one still got 4, always looking for more !!!
My cinema will really only have two, maybe I will sell my plasma and put one in the living room - who knows.........
Without question GREG is the best for any work on ANY Barco.

I don't have a solution for this. I did three 909 setups and all machines showed it, yours and Spotmatic's do too. All faulty? I don't think so.
Probably this is part of how the 909's digital geometry works.
Since it is visible in all bright areas of the picture it stopped my plan for a stack and/or curved screen for now. It will only get more visible. Definitely a drawback from the very clean picture of my modded 9500U i am used to.

The big question for me is, does the Cine 9 also have the same problems?
For me it is not really a deal-breaker. From normal viewing distances it is hardly visible. Yesterday we watched 10,000 BC on the 909 and I cannot remember having seen the noise. It's there, of course, and I'd love to have a solution als I have the feeling that the noise is lowering the resolution of the picture somewhat.
But apart from this, the picture is awesome... As any 909 owner will tell you. There's always a big smile on my face each time I power the beast up.

Hi,
I have not seen any noise in Cine9, but what I did discover
is that it was extremely sensitive to old memories. Once I
deleted everything, the setup went smoothly. Another thing
that could cause issues would be the cpc magnet setup.
If there is any raster movement when center focus is
run all the way up and down - then the zone focus will pull
the grid lines out, and all the resultant geometry/convergence
tweaking quickly gets very messy. It is very tempting to use the
center zone astig controls for a quicker set up - and that is
where the difficulty began....hohoho!
