I'm going to let you guys in on a little secret.

As most of you know, VDC has been producing Marquee's for awhile now.

As some of you might know, VDC also bought out Ampro some time ago.

But what you may not know is that they have been infiltrating Marquee's with Ampro parts.

Little by little the Marquee is being transferred into what was believed to be the long lost Ampro, although still begging for equal picture quality.

Many parts are the same type, size and value as the old Ampro.

So it may look like a duck (Marquee), walk like a duck (Marquee) and talk like a duck (Marquee), it's really an AMPRO in disguise.

TSE told us somewhere that VDC is still producing AMPRO'S for the Navy i think, so it wouldn't be bad idea for them to combine the best of both PJ into a" Super CRT" they could call it the Marqee-Pro !!

All kidding aside, if the X600 series projector sucks soooo much, why does the Navy insist on them vs the Quee?
Also, as far as I know, there have been no upgrades in the design and they still insist on them Wink

The reason is that they are familiar with the set up from what I hear. And something with how there magnetics are set up, more stable when moving around the world on the ships, less drift due to the earths magnetic changes. I think this is attributed to the better focus coil design I do believ they have the same coils as what we marquee giuys look for in a frankenyoke. I have always wanted to get a 4200 or 4600 focus coil to measure the windings and see how close they are to the KD22 22, I think they are the same coil pack. Want to measure the uh for us Chip?

I would have to say that servicability is one of the major reasons. 80% of the circuit boards can be changed in a minute or less. Not counting the mother board, one man could completely re-board one in under ten minutes. I've never timed myself but think I could completely strip down a 4600, including the mother board in 30 minutes without having to disturb the tubes. About the only thing they could have done to simplify service would have been the installation of a red LED on each board that illuminates when the board goes out of spec. I have never seen a projector that's as easy to work on as this. I will say that the HVPS is still the weakest link in the AmPro BUT it has been improved to the point that it's failure rate is no more than any other projector on the market. Set it up correctly and keep it clean so it runs cool and it will run forever.
