Sez who? http://www.projectorcentral.com/JVC-DLA-RS2.htm says it will throw an image up to 200", though their projection calculator says anything over about 125" starts to get too dim.

I dont know if it's indicative w/ digitals, but I do want to have something that can do a bigger screen.. I plan on upgrading to a 160 (approx) only giving me 5" before it starts to go dim is too close of a line...
Is this a problem with all of them??

160 is huge and needs a big room!!! which in my opinion would be plenty of room for the CRT you have now !!!
lol
And here is my 159 inch diagonal Screen from a single marquee 8500:

Its not really the size of the screen as that roll's up into the ceiling.. Its the huge box hanging over our heads on the couch. It sticks out like a sore thumb... The theater room is also our living room.. Its a older house so the rooms are smaller...

Room is 17 feet from the back to the front of the screen....

I don't think throw distance is the problem. Projectorcentral's calc says the RS2 can do up to 165" with a 16' throw.
The problem is lumens. A 160" screen has 76 sq ft, if I'm figuring right. With a 600 lumen projector like the RS2, you'd only get 600/75=7.9 ftL. (Projectorcentral says 8 ftL with 157" diagonal.) That's pretty low but usable, if you don't mind a dim picture -- but that's with a brand new bulb. You'd see a big drop in light output within 100-200 hours on the bulb. 600 lumens is also uncalibrated. Calibrating the projector will knock off a lot too -- probably at least 20-30%.
So with a couple hundred hours on the bulb and a calibration, you'd be down in the 4-5 ftL range. That's way too low.
jamsys, if you want a 160" screen, and you want some "pop" in your image, I think you're going to have to find a projector with at least 1000-1200 ANSI lumens. More would be better.

What projectors are reccomended for that size room? I agree 600 lumens isnt going to cut it... We dont have a completly dark seperate theater room...

the ruby throw distance is the same as a crt...
ours is mounted approx 3m from the screen to give us a 7' wide screen...
it is eye-poppingly bright on a 1.5 gain screen on the cinema setting with the iris closed to improve black level...
