I also readjusted brightness so I am now getting much better shadow detail at the expense of blacks that are not longer absolute. But it's a nice compromise.

Rob, that's where gamma boost comes in. You can have your cake and eat it, too. I want to get into something with gamma boost BAD. I love those completely black scenes in my theater where you can't see your hand in front of your face - that blows people's MINDS! I think I've pretty much decided to get the Moome IFB card - whenever it comes out. Sounds like that will finally be the sweet spot maturity in these devices and will include all the things we need - not leaving something out that will give me upgrade-itis 6 months later. I HATE that!

Oh, and where are those pictures!!! (I'm a slacker, too) I played with my projector last weekend instead of taking pics, and now I've sold my DSLR.

hey man! sorry about the lack of pictures Sad my camera and skillz suck at that, but my buddy is going to take some shots soon for me. as for gamma boost...

i already have the moome hdmi card with the gamma circuit. the G70VR has been recalibrated with the card installed. i boosted the gamma as much as possible and it still needs a bit more. the good news is the gamma curve is consistent at just over 2.0. were you referring to a different gamma boost source???

well i decided to go back to 11.5 ft/l as anything 12+ was stressing the G70VR a bit much. seems 11.5 is the sweet spot for this PJ. with the brightness and gamma adjusted correctly, 11.5 still looks quite nice. i did discover something odd last night though...

sometimes the PJ syncs to the PS3 and Xbox 360 at a horizontal freq. of 60, but it also syncs at 59.7. This slight difference requires me to have 2 memory banks with the exact same settings as I never know which one it will choose. ALL the settings are exactly the same for both memory banks, but for some reason 59.7 looks better! The image is just more "3d" and contrasty. I honestly don't get it. Should that 0.3 difference in freq. really affect image quality? Like I said, all the numbers are identical aside from the H freq.

You should reed this article:
http://www.poynton.com/papers/IST_SPIE_9801/index.html
It's a good reed if you want to understand gamma.
So shouldn't 2.5 be our target?
