Yeah, but you have to agree, the DLR 'attitude' was all part of his persona. You can't have an over the top rock star being humble, right? At the time he was recording here, he was at the top of his game, and gawd knows the spandex groupies were hanging around the studio all times of the day and night.

I did sit outside the studio late one night when Metallica was recording drum tracks, and I recognized one of the tracks when the Load album came out.

Very true. Gary Cherone proved it doesn't work for Van Halen. Can anyone remember Balance?

I can. Balance was a great album! Probably Sammy's best vocals in a decade; but his other V/H albums were pretty damn fine all the same. I never have listened to V/H III (Charone's one and only)Mr. Green

Cool story. I think he talks as much as he plays at his shows from my experience though. Was Nathan East playing bass for him this tour? Vinnie's outstanding as well. I saw him last year at Crossroads Guitar Festival in Chicago and his set with Jeff Beck was just over the top. But hey, it's great to hear that Herbie keeps it real with a CRT in addition to his uncanny knack for putting together great tunes. Even as he's getting older, he can still really bring the A-game to the stage.
