|
|
I had the PA board for my G70 repaired and needed to touch up convergence and grey scale. I noticed that the Green tube raster is always on even with no signal. R and B are dark.
Looking directly at the tube it almost looks like video noise and scan lines. I've run BIAS down to '5' and it still glows! Normally all the tubes are dark with no signal.
I've had this intermittently once before but I can't remember what it was I did to fix it. Or if it just fixed itself.
Any ideas what might be causing this?

Not saying this is your problem, but this happened to me: The spot kill in my blue tube shorted out and the raster stayed lit regardless of what adjustments I made. Also, there was a lot of light spillage. When you muted the picture, you could see a blue tint all around the screen.

I had the same problem with a G70 green, but the raster was not bright enough to light up the screen.
You can read about the problems in one of the old For Sale threads.
Turns out it was a bad tube. It was suggested to try tapping the tube neck, etc., but I didn't want to mess with it.

I believe standing the PJ up and tapping on the tube neck would be an attempt to fix a shorted spot kill. This is to try to dislodge whatever is shorting it out. Unfortunately I didn't learn about that until after I had replace my shorted tube. It had wear anyway, so no big deal.
