Well, I got two BarcoGraphics 808S's, brought them home, one seems to be in great shape. The other would be used for parts. Wife comes home and inquires as to where they the projector was gonna go in the media room. I said on the ceiling of course! Well in lieu of my beloved children I my CRT dream theater has been squashed by WAF.

Anyone have an idea what projector I could get that will give me a great picture quality and keep the mother of my children happy?

I was going to say it would probably be easier just to get a new wife.....but then I realized that is off-topic and really not much help.

I will never understand this WAF thing. I do what I want when I want where I want. And I very seldom let her give advice on any construction project I undertake including the theater. And even then it's only to humor her.

After you have it hung on the ceiling and she has a few friends over to watch movies and go WOW then you can remind her what a great idea this was. Until then just go for it. They all want womens liberation so I say give it to them. Womens liberation from thinking about theater design and construction.

Hope that helps Twisted Evil It worked for me.

Wow, in the media room? My wife literally had zero control over that room. My God, a guy should have at least ONE damn room they can do whatever they want with!

What's her opposition? Aesthetics or...?

Or put it in a coffee table.

But I agree, there should be a man's room in the house. A woman's room is the kitchen.

Now make me a sammich..Wink

I've said that many times. The HT room and the garage should be the man's domain. The wife can rule over the rest of the house.

I like the balls in the purse comment. Mean, but funny! Mr. Green

I use to be like that. That's why I'm divorced. Mr. Green Actually I'm not kidding. I was an oppressive ruler! (ok, maybe I wasn't THAT bad) Mr. Green

here's the speech.

A man must be a MAN. Some guys play the ponies. Some guys hang down @ the bar. Some guys play poker. Some guys go to strip clubs. Boats, planes, computer games.... the list goes on.

You have chosen HT. You must insist on having some time and space left for you to be a MAN! This is non negotiable!

Explain to your wife that this is your house too, and this is what you want!

This is as funny as hell Smile Smile

I'm gonna read in an Aussie paper soon that theres been an unusual spike in divorces in the US, all with one common thread, all the husbands were former HT enthusiasts, I say former cause you'll lose the house when she kiks ur a$$ out lol.

But hey gotta live on the edge, damn the topededos I say! Just tell her to STFU, get back to cleaning the rest of the house, make you a sammich and only then will you consider letting her clean the HT room once you're through. Let big jim and the twins rule the house and you'll get ur HT in order Smile

Pretty much that.

Though, I wonder if it wouldn't be possible to build it into a coffee table. You might have to work with nastier angles and have some convergence issues but I don't see why you couldn't do it.

Amen brother! Thumbs Up

There are so many bad things you could be doing...but no...all you want is a place to project a big movie and turn your speakers up every now and then. Is that too much to ask?

Well as your comments have merits, my main hobby is not HT. I have plenty of leeway with my fishing, sports, and other hobbies where she has no say at all. My workshop is mine and she has zero input of what I do there. I was building this media room more for my son (10yrs old) and our family for movie nights, rockband get together with friends and a listening room for my music. I want the best quality picture I can afford and my entire media room has been very bargain basement priced, but the audio side of things is more of my thing in there with movies being about 30% for me. So with that, the question still is raised...Is there a smaller projector that will give the quality of an BG808s that may not endanger the life of my children if it was to fall from the ceiling?

I don't think you are going to find a CRT projector under about 75 lbs. worth having. Honestly, as much as I hate to say it you sound like a great candidate for a digital projector. It would be much more family friendly and easy to hang, no setup involved really. If you are going to be playing video games that's another reason to go digital because you don't want to burn good tubes playing games. I have owned both but as long as I have a say so I will always have CRT. Digital has come a long way and there are some nice projectors out there in the sub $1500 range that would probably be your best bet.
