The one thing I didn't like was that Camcorder had one hell of a battery.

Is it a great film? No, but it's entertaining (think train wreck). I liked it enough I plunked down for the BR. Looking forward to the HR audio.

Weird, I picked up the BR at Walmart last night. I paid way more then your Amazon price $29.99.
Yes the video quality is very good. Sound was incredible!

Yeah, I think it's already released. Amazon must just be out of stock.
Dammit, Axatax - the "train wreck" description is scaring me. The wife and I are big LOST fans, and Cloverfield is the same guy - JJ Abrams - who's working LOST - so, I've had pretty high hopes for this film. How would you compare it to I Am Legend? Less serious? More "comic bookish" or something?

Yeah, I have seen it out in several stores but have resisted temptation. I'm still trying to get over the sticker shock of Blu Ray movies as I just bought my player a week ago. I'm finding the used market and Netflix very appealing...

I haven't found much used around here, but I've heard of people getting them cheap from pawn shops. Also, Amazon does 3-for-2 deals, and J&R and some others have a small selection of older films so cheap, they're actually cheaper than the DVD version. I just bought Final Fantasy and Fifth Element for under $26 shipped.
We're renting WAY more than we used to and buying much less. I just try to grab a few "keepers" nowadays.

We have the CD Warehouse stores here that buy/sell used stuff and they are very reasonable. I just bought 3 movies today over on the other forums classifieds section. I think that most of us around here are careful enough with our stuff that it really makes sense to at least look for used movies. I mean, what am I paying $10 to $15 more a movie for? To be able to open it myself? That's the biggest pain in the ass anyway. This way it's done for me and I can sell it again if I want to and recoup all or almost all of my investment.
Didn't mean to drift too far off topic here. I will continue to search Amazon for deals and support this forum when I can but what can I say, I'm a bargain shopper.
Cloverfield looks like it would give me a headache with that shaky camera crap. Looks scary which I like but I hope it's not another Blair Witch.

Don't let that scare you - I was just inferring that voyeuristic curiosity is what initially compelled me to select this disc. This is not usually my cup of tea, but I liked the movie alot. Very few similarities with I am Legend (catastrophe in Manhattan, and monsters, is about all they have in common).

I would too, except none of the rental stores here have BR yet. I think I am going to have to try the NetFlix route. I should do the internet order thing, I just tend to be an impulse buyer if I see it in the store and want it I buy it.
I haven't ordered anything from Amazon in year. What is the typical shipping cost for BR?
I think once this season of Weeds is over I will most likely cancel my HBO/Showtime subscription. Dish Network is so compressed the quality just isn’t there anymore and the programming really sucks.

Free for the slow boat, which averages right under a week, usually.

Wow that's pretty good.
I don’t want to give too much away about it, but the way it is photographed is very different. I can’t say I have seen anything else done in the style used; some parts were so realistic I really felt like part of the action, and felt somewhat exhausted at the end. The camera work WILL make some people queasy if watched on a large enough screen.

Yeah, I heard about the "shaky cam" style. A little Blair Witch-esque, maybe?
Your comments about it feeling real and being part of the action are intriguing. Cool.

I saw it. I'm a huge sci-fi fan but this movie didn't do it for me. Maybe it'll grow on me like fungas.

I haven't seen this movie yet. Someone told me there wasn't enough story development for the ... monster? Unfortunately, I think the Sci-Fi channel is doing a terrific job training people on what science fiction is NOT! But feed cows brains from other cows and this might be the end product.

More than a little. I don't know about "good", but it was an interesting movie.

"The reviews all pretty say it's a great movie too." You say that like it's an afterthought Kal. Like being a good movie is a marginally important bonus.
You're definitely a gear whore Kal. It seems your HT enthusiasm has little to do with being a movie buff. Nothing wrong with that of course!

Yeah, Phil but do you agree with the reviews 100% of the time? Don't you ever like movies that the critics hated? Hate movies that the critics loved?
Just tonight, we watched "The Number 23" with Jim Carrey. The wife and I really enjoyed it! It was no Vertigo, but it was decent little psychological thriller. The Tomatometer has it at 8%. EIGHT. Howard the f*cking Duck got 19% on the Tomatometer if that tells you anything. Serenity, which I thought was pretty lame - maybe just barely OK... 82% on the Tomatometer. WTF? 82%?!??!?
So, depending on the movie, the critics' opinions just might be an afterthought! ... and I might get more excited about the picture/sound quality. Of course, both a great story and an excellent presentation together are always preferable.

Are there really those that believe in any reviews? I trust those opinions of my friends that can answer questions knowing what I like and do not like.
