Ok I essentially have a 42" old Sony "Monitor" (2 comp inputs(labled RGB/YUV), 2 audio headphone input, a 3.5mm adio output , an S-video, and a cable input). its HD. I have been told that i should get a HDMI to VGA converter (external) where it splits to VGA and then has a jck for audio. and then I have been told I should just go from HDMI to DVI to VGA and I have also been told I should go from HDMI to RGB... What hould i do in term of picture and the also how do i get the sound to go from the back of theDish HD box to the TV which only has audio inputs like headphones?

RGB and VGA are interchangeable. As for the audio, get yourself a stereo RCA cable and a 1/8" stereo male to 2xfemale RCA adapter/cable and you'll be all set.

Sorry, but what exactly are you trying to do? Connect HDMI devices to this display? IF that's the case Moome's EXT-FULLHD will work fine - it'll convert HDMI to RGB ( same as VGA). As long as your display has a VGA / RGB input it'll work.

While the EXT-FULLHD can split out the audio from the HDMI signal too, you'll need an optical input on your display to use that (which I don't think you mentioned you have), so best to just use regular analog RCA audio cables (stereo) to feed the display. Or better yet, feed the audio separately via Toslink to a receiver or something.
