Well I can't make it out to either of the meets, but I was in Chicago this week and prevailed on Cliffy's hospitality. When I drove down there yesterday I discovered Arli was there too, so I got the pleasure of meeting both of them.
Cliff stack is, indeed, Da Bomb. DAMN that thing is sharp. When I (with my less-than-perfect vision) can see 1920x1080 1-on-1-off alternating lines -- horizontally AND vertically -- from the front row viewing chair, well, damn! Anyone who thinks you couldn't possibly line up two projectors for a sharp picture needs to see Cliff's stack. Maybe G90's are the only beasties that can do it, but Cliff's HT proves that they can. With 2 G90's he's getting almost 10 ftL on his 10' wide 1.0-gain screen, which gives it plenty of pop. The image on Sin City was just incredibly crisp, and everything looked spectacular.
I wish I'd had a low-light camera at one point. Cliff put up a crosshatch pattern and peered at the screen from about 6" away, then turned to me with a delighted evil leer on his face. Cliff in front of the perfect test pattern, with R/G/B crosshatches on his demented grinning face, was a classic Cliffy image.
We had lots of entertainment, ranging from "Shoot 'Em Up" (the most hilarious over-the-top killfest I've ever seen) to a killer steak dinner at Gino's to a spectacular sunset, looking in the same direction as those storm shots Cliff posted a few days ago. Cliff showed me plenty of classic scenes that showcased his PQ (e.g. Sin City) and his neighborhood-rockin' bass (King Kong & others). We finished up at midnight with a couple of cuts from David Gilmour at the Royal Albert Hall, which was absolutely incredible. I'll have to put that disk on my must-buy list.
A good time was had by all, and now I know what a G90 stack is capable of. Thanks for the hospitality, big dog!

Ok, When we get closer to the time I'll figure it out. I don't know if the detour will effect people coming off the Indiana Toll Road I80/90 or not.

So Mike, how did you like it when the bass hit your chest from the front row during Echoes?
There is a thread here:
http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1047136
About contrast ratio. How important do you think it is now that you have visited my room that is still after this time in an unfinished state?
Hence my guess of easily 80K to one contrast.
I won't bother posting in that thread because actions speak for words. You were in my room, you got to experience it first hand.
OH, and damn, I gotta get that POS NEC fixed before the meet, PAIN IN MY ASS!

Big Dog, of the last 3 times I've been at your place, I never heard or saw Echoes. But, since Ken (Reverend of Raster) got the 6pg xtra going, I've watch that track about 50 times here.
I DO fully expect to watch and hear Echoes in full force next month.
Less than 3 weeks folks!

Big dog, anything close to 46373 will be fine. There is a bunch of them around here and it's a good area.
I believe Don usually stays at the Best Western on Rt. 41 and Rt. 30.
Looking foward to meeting you!
Cliffy |
The Best Western is decent and good price. Also, just about 5 minutes from Cliff's.

Dear BBQ God;
Of course I'm out here. I read much, post little. The list for attendance at the second half of the Great 2008 Transcontinental Home Theater Meet Part Deaux has not changed for a while. It is:
The Great Don Wallace
The Legendary Mike Parker
The Ever Captivating Clarence (That's a reference to his photography skills, especially in firelight)
His Lordship Mr. Emdawqz1
His Lordship's Current Avatar (She really is into Blended CRTs)
The One and Only Cliffster
DropZone7
CRT Ben (and hopefully Cheryl)
The Host
His Hottie Wife
Scott (Adrian Kelly)?
Where's the rest of the Chicago crowd? Its an unwritten HT Extravaganza rule that the size of the Chicago crowd attending the Virginia portion of the Meet has to be at least equal to the size of the Virginia crowd attending the Chicago portion of the Meet. Right now the Virginia crowd attending the Chicago Meet = 5 (Me, Clarence, Don, John (he's close enough to Va, he counts) and John's current Avatar). The Chicago crowd attending the Virginia Meet =1 (Cliffy). What's up with that?
Gino?
Curt Palme?
Tim Martin?
Am I missing anyone?

I really want to try to make it to both , so far cliffs is for sure, the august 23rd date is up in the air.
Cliff its going to be a while before i am able to even start messing with my blend so i had a crazy idea to bring the C2-2250A's to the meet and maybe slap them in real quick just to see how they handle the blend zone. They should be easy to figure out and we could mess around with it late into the wee hours . Its Just a thought.

Umm... I'd say that Cliff's projectors aren't physically sitting in the right location for a blend to begin with...
