Yup. Ordinarily, I do a lot of lurking but I've gotta weigh in on this one.

I clearly remember when the old Home Theater Technology magazine ran an article many years ago about ole Steve's home theater. The guy had every unbelievable tweak and ridiculous hockey puck and shakra absorbing stone you can imagine. And that's not counting his ludicriously overpriced boutique components. I remember thinking at the time that the guy had some screws loose, so naturally he was destined to become a moderator over at you-know-where.

The snake oil salesmen have made a fortune off the poor sap over the years.

Wouldn't that line of reasoning go like this:

"If there's rining on the left side of the Marquee then purple gravel boat violin."

Mr. Green

I don't remember seeing the article, but I am sure I passed over it. Steve always seems to be stirring the pot with only a modicum of technical knowledge. He did seem to push the Dwin and probably made more than a couple of people take a glance at it.

As for the cables, I think Steve pushed Granite Audio. I have been in the boat that the cables need to be good enough to do the job and any thing else is overkill (or overlighten of wallet:)). I remember tse testing some cables and confirming some of the snake oil. I tested some Monoprices and found them to be more than adequate for the job. To me, if you want to be done with cables for life then get some tools from mccartenco.com along with the connectors. After that shop on price for Belden and your done except for S-video (hardly needed anymore) and HDMI.

Some of my favorite cable idiocy so far is a guy comparing various digital optical cables, and critiquing each on its 'air' and 'position' or whatever the hell. Yeah, the bits from one of them are much more oney and zeroey than the bits from the other one! Rolling Eyes

I have no idea any more. I remember emailing the guy asking him to clarify, and getting some kind of run-around response, but I can't remember where it was. It was just a review somewhere, though, so all you could do is flame the author via email anyway... Razz
