Can anyone explain what black bias does?

I increased the black bias on all three tubes of my nec xg and the picture looks incredible. Can anyone tell me what this does and if it is bad for the projector?

You have to set the BIAS of your projector using a pluge with the correct grayscale or black bars.

BIAS set the point where the tubes will turn to black. If you set it incorrecly, you'll just see bad.
