|
|
I am new to CRT projectors and would like some help to know what issues I might come across if purchasing a used Barco Graphics 1208 projector for movies and video games. Are there parts that commonly need replaced on old machines like this? What expenses might I expect? What additional hardware would I need, if any, to get the thing working?
I have always wanted a projector, and if I got a new LCD projector I could just plug it in and turn it on. The reason I am looking at CRT projectors is so that I don't have to spend much money. But this gives the added concern that it may not work as expected, I might have to buy parts for it or additional hardware to set it up or make it work correctly. What should I expect as far as this goes when purchasing one and setting it up?
Thanks for your input.

Look for low hours on the run meter located in the service menu and tubes that show little phosphor wear. Read up on CRT wear, spot burns and pattern burns. You will have to remove the four bolts that bolt each lens to the chassis for any true inspection of the CRTs.

You should do that, these are not plug and play,if gaming and a big image are what you are after -use a cheap throw away digital unit.

CRT are really about image quality-at the cost of all else- you need a dedicated light controlled theater space,a permanent mounting location, many hours to set up and optimize your image. The focus of a religious fanatic with Obsessive compulsive disorder is helpful...
Once you have seen a properly set up crt projector you are able to appreciate how good a picture you can get for a very reasonable per hour cost, and you will be spoiled for ALL the other options currently offered.

read the manuals/guides relating to the 1208, check out some of the old "newb" threads, try to see a well set up CRT if someone is local to you.
