I have an older dtc100 from RCA, and was curious if anyone has been able to get it to accept incoming cable signals in HDTV? Reason for asking is because the manual states that it can handle ATSC from a cable provider. If so then what cable company has this been successful with?

Page 6 of the manual has the information about it, unfortunately I can't get it to copy and paste.

I only use this for off air signals, but it would be great to know that I could possibly get HD cable signals as well.

Thanks in advance for any responses.

I used to own a couple of DTC-100 but never had them on cable. Only Direct TV and OTA, I did a little research and looks like it does not have QAM support, but my understanding is most cable companies now scramble QAM anyway.

Cable companies have to leave all the network stations in the clear. Federal law states that they can not scramble network channels. It is part of the must carry laws. It also covers the same channels in HD. All of the rest are scrambled though.

So pretty much I can recieve the local and unscrambled channels, but no HD because it supports ATSC, but not QAM right?

Yes, but not all follow this, some inadvertently scramble them. It is a big pain to fight the battle to get them unscrambled. The locals should not be 5C encrypted on the firewire either, but only two of my locals on FiOS are unencrypted. Go figure.

Correct!!

You need QAM to get the HD channels off cable.

ATSC will get you over the air HD channels only.
